Beautiful Poinsettia

 

Today I am back to doing what I love -- creating cards with flowers!  This is a beautiful poinsettia stamp by Penny Black "Christmas Pride".  Joan, at Joan's Gardens, has these stamps in stock.  It is a large stamp so it needs to be the focal point of the card.  I stamped it using VersaMark "Dazzle Frost" ink and clear embossed it.  The image was stamped twice so I could create layers.  One whole flower was cut out then the second one was cut out leaving off all the large outer leaves.  Several colors of Distressed Inks were sponged onto the flowers using a darker brown ink in the center.  Next it was sprayed with a fine mist of water to blend the colors, then dried with the heat gun.  Using scissors, I cut between all the petals up toward the center of each flower.  Next I sprayed the flowers with Perfect Pearls Mists "Cappuccino" and shaped the petals while damp.  This was set aside to dry while workiing on the rest of the card.

There is a piece of design paper in the Kaiser Craft "December 25th" paper pad that I have been dying to use.  It is a tan paper with a glossy design and works great with this flower.  The ivory frame I die cut is the Cheery Lynn "Polynesian Sails Oval".  It was lightly sponged with Distress ink.  The Flourishes are both from the Marianne Designs (LR0157) die set.  They were sponged with a dark brown Distress Ink.  To complete the card a pretty silk bow and a few pearls were added.  The sentiment is from the JustRite "Deck the Halls" stamp set.

Snowman

 

Don't you love snowmen!  I don't know why, but they always make me happy.  I use lots of them to decorate my house at Christmas time.  We had about two inches of snow last night.  I have this cute little snowman from Joan's Gardens and thought it would be perfect to create a card with today.  This is the snowman and stocking from the Sizzix "Snowman and Stocking" die (657248).  Joan does have these dies in stock.  The "25" is a die cut from the Sizzix "Mini Reindeer & 25" set (657493).  The snowflakes are a combination of snowflakes from the Marianne (LR0123) and the Cheery Lynn Snowflake 5 (DL169). They were all die cut and layered with dimensional dots between each one.  After they were assembled I brushed on "Glue N' Seal" glue and sprinkled on diamond glitter.  The border across the middle of the card is Cheery Lynn "Daisy Lace Bracelet" (DL135).  The border across the bottom is the Cheery Lynn Anastasia Border (B136).

After die cutting the snowman, I used the snowman die and placed a piece of black card stock over the hat and blue card stock over the mittens and ran it through the machine again.  The nose was die cut with the "white" snowman so I just colored it with an orange marker.  I love how my snowman turned out.  I used Post It notes to cover the hat and arms then used "YES" glue and a small spatula to spread glue over the body of the snowman.  "Twinklets Diamond Dust", which is a very coarse glitter, was poured over the snowman and pressed down into the glue.  Dew Drops were added for the button and small pearls added for the eyes.  There are little holes for these and I placed some glue in the hole and pressed the black beads into it.  A "fuzzy" blue scarf was tied around his neck.  This is a piece of fuzzy yarn.  Some glue was added across the hat and black glitter sprinkled on for the band.  The stocking was die cut with blue card stock as well as a scrap of design paper then paper pieced.  A Quickie Glue pen was used to draw lines on the blue parts of the stocking and mittens, and glitter was added.  Also small dots of glue was added to the white dots in the design paper and glitter sprinkled on.  Along the bottom more "Twinklets Diamond Dust" was added over the Anastasia Border.  A small white bow was added for the stocking to hang from.

Another "Joy" Popup Card

 

After posting the last popup card I created using the "Joy" Memory Box Dies, Joan, Joan's Gardens, had an overwhelming number of you order the dies used on that card. Here is the link to that card.   I loved working with those dies and thought I would create another popup card for you today.  This time I die cut the "Joy" popup on the lower portion of the card then die cut the letters again on sparkly striped paper and attached them over the "Joy" attached to the card.  

Here is a list of the products l used from Joan's Gardens:  BoBunny "Father Christmas Collection" design paper; Memory Box "Pop Up Joy" (98192);  "Winterland Tree" (98168); "Country House" (98165); "Frosty Border" (98171); "Twigs & Berries" (98161); Cheery Lynn Anastasia Border" (B136), and the Martha Stewart "Aspen Snowflake" border punches. 

It is a little hard to see so I want to tell you what is written on the design paper "In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there".  It appears Santa will be landing any moment on some child's roof top!

 

From this view you can see the "Joy" popup really well.  All the die cut pieces were arranged as shown.  As with the other Joy Popup card, I cut a piece of yellow card stock to place behind the house so I could add yellow glitter in the windows.  Some glitter was also added to the tree.  Along the bottom I added "Diamond Dust" which is a "chunky" glitter and makes perfect snow.  

This is the front of the card.  I used another piece of design paper from the same BoBunny paper pack.  Two of the Memory Box "Twigs & Berries" dies were cut for placement above the sentiment.  This is going to be another die I know you will use all year long.  This die comes with three pieces - the branch, leaves and the berry.  I can see using this branch and leaves in the Spring and adding small flowers.  The sentiment is from the Penny Black "Friends and Family" stamp.  It was cut out with a Spellbinders "Label Eight" die and sponged with Distress Ink.  The Cheery Lynn Anastasia  Border was added along the bottom and also sponged.

A White Christmas

 

Don't you love shopping for all your stamping supplies from Joan's Gardens.  She carries such a great variety of items to create beautiful cards.  I love all the different dies she carries and have created another quick and easy card using just three dies.   The outside frame was punched with a Martha Stewart  snowflake border punch.  The background in the center was embossed with the Cuttlebug Swiss Dots embossing folder.  Strips of paper were cut to create snow along the bottom of the card.  The three dies used are from Cheery Lynn:  Santa's Sleigh (DL173), Colonial Lamp Post (B130); and the tree is the "Elegant Evergreen Christmas Tree" (D144).  I used "Twinklets Diamond Dust" for the snow. The adhesive I use to attach the delicate die cuts is the "Glue N' Seal" -- I brush it on the back of the die cut for even coverage.  The little snowflakes are die cuts out of the snowflake border.

Die Cut Pumpkin Centerpiece

 

We have a fun challenge at Joan's Gardens this week and I have created another centerpiece using dies.   The products used are Spellbinders Classic Scallop Oval and Scallop Circle dies for the pumpkins.  The leaves on the pumpkins and scattered around the bottom of the pumpkins were die cut using the Cheery Lynn "SM Leaves" (D133 and D134).  The vine on the pumpkins was die cut using the Marianne Designs "Garden Branch" (LR0151).  The doily under the centerpiece was die cut using the Cheery Lynn "Mega Italian Flourish" doily (DL159).

In this picture you can see the leaves around the candle and pumpkins better.  They were die cut using mustard card stock and sponged with different colors of Distress Inks.

 

To create the pumpkins, I die cut 15 Spellbinders Circles for the small pumpkin and 15 Ovals for the taller pumpkin. You can die cut any amount you want, according to how full you want the pumpkins.   Each circle and oval was folded in half and creased with a bone folder.  To build the pumpkin I used "Yes" Glue.  This is a thick paste glue and holds the pumpkin together really well.  I used an old "icing" knife to spread glue on one side of the folded pumpkin then added another folded piece adding glue to the top of that one, etc.

It was easier to divide the stacks into 3 attaching 5 pieces, then going back and attaching the three together.  The nice thing about using YES Glue is that it is thick and will slide easily so you can match up the scallops as you attach each one.  You need to be sure and keep the sections separated after you have all of them attached to form a pumpkin. I forgot to mention that I cut off one scallop from the folded piece, on the bottom of the pumpkin so it would be flat to help it stand up.   In this picture you can see a little brown stem I had cut to place in the center at the top of the pumpkin.  The little candle is scented "pumpkin" and is in a little clear holder.  A piece of design paper was die cut using the Cheery Lynn "Anastasia border" (B136).  It was wrapped around the candle and attached together with a small glue dot.

The pumpkins and candle were attached to the doily with glue dots.  The leaves were attached with a small amount of YES Glue.  I worked on my Teflon Craft Mat so the doily would not stick to anything.  Once it was dry I could move it.

It was a lot of fun creating these cute little pumpkins for another centerpiece in my home.  I hope I gave you another idea for using dies for our challenge at Joan's Gardens.  I hope you will join us.  We love to see all your creative ideas.

Joan's Weekly Challenge - Think Outside the Box

 

We have a fun challenge for you this week at Joan's Gardens.  We want to see different ways you can use your stamps and dies to create any Autumn/Thanksgiving item other than a card.  Many times we don't think out of the box and to use our stamping products for things other than cards.  Joan and I have created a few items to give you some ideas. 

For this week's challenge I have completed two projects.  My first one is a pretty candle ring for a candle centerpiece.

 

I started out by die cutting a doily using rust card stock and the Marianne Designs "LR0180" large plain doily die.  This doily has a solid center for my candle to sit on.  Next I cut a band out of a "fall" design paper to go around the bottom of the candle.  To this band I added my fall arrangement.  The leaves were die cut using the Sizzix "Mini Tattered Leaves" die.  I used a new Sizzix die I just received from Joan's Gardens that makes pinecones.  This die is called "Tattered Pinecones" and is a die cut spiral that shapes very quickly into a pretty pinecone.

 

Can you see the pine cones tucked into the leaves in this picture?  Also this die has a pine branch which i die cut using brown card stock.  You can also use this portion of the die to create green  "evergreen" branches.  I wanted to add some small flowers to my arrangement so stamped and die cut Heartfelt Creations "Posy Patch Flowers" (HCPC 3303).  I used that Cheery Lynn "Mega Italian Flourish" (DL159) doily under the centerpiece. These mega doilies are just beautiful for things like this.  To complete this centerpiece I added a pretty bow.

My next project is a box created for a loaf of pumpkin bread I baked for one of my neighbors.  

To create the bottom of the box, I drew a line around the loaf of bread (on the card stock), and added one inch for the sides of the box.  For the handle I die cut 4 of the Cheery Lynn "Tiffany Border" (B137).  These dies are 8 inches long and I needed 11 inches so just pieced them together.  The handle was attached with ScorTape along the bottom edge of the box.  The pumpkin was die cut using the Sizzix "Mini Acorn and Pumpkin" die cut set.  The leaves are from the Sizzix "Mini Tattered Leaves" dies.  The flourishes were created with the Marianne Designs "Forest Branch" (LR0150).   On the handle and sides of the box I added two Spellbinders Accents.   A Spellbinders Tag was cut, sponged and a small brad put in the hole then attached to the handle with a dimensional dot.  A bow was added to the top.  A loaf of pumpkin bread, wrapped in clear wrap, and placed in the box.

All White Merry Christmas plus Mini Tutorial

 

 This morning I was waiting to leave for an appointment and had about 45 minutes to spare, so decided to try creating a card I had an idea for.  This is the result.  Don't you love the new Memory Box dies you can now get from Joan's Gardens.  The Christmas tree is the "Winterland Tree (98168) and the pretty bows are the "Crisp Bows" (98197).  The border around the card was created with the Martha Stewart "Double Arches" border punch set.  I think that punched frame is perfect with these dies.  I didn't want to take time to figure out colors so created a totally white card.  In the photo below I show you how I laid out all the dies for this card.

 

 I used the Spellbinders "Grand Calibur" die cutting machine and was able to lay out all the dies I wanted to cut for this project.  For the "gift packages" I used a variety of my small square and rectangle Spellbinders dies. I think they made perfect gift packages.   You can also see the Winterland Tree, the bows, and the Memory Box "Star of Wonder" dies (98167).  After die cutting these dies, they were also embossed.  I doubled up some of the bows to create a "fuller" bow on some of the packages, so additional bows were die cut.  All the die cut elements were arranged on the card adding dimensional dots under some of the "gifts".  The sentiment is from the JustRite "Sparky and Friends" stamp set.  To add some sparkle to this white card I decided to use the "Quickie Glue" pen to add glue to the bows and tree then sprinkle with diamond dust glitter.  The corners are from the Spellbinders "Parisian Accents" die set.  Clear rhinestones were added to the packages and tree to complete the card.

Autumn Gatherings

 

Joan's Gardens is featuring "Autumn" products this week and I created a card using a couple of the Autumn dies.  To begin with I used the Sizzix "Branch Tree" embossing folder and sponged it with Distress Ink.  To create the sun I used a Spellbinders Circle die and sponged three different shades of yellow ink, inside the die, to create a Harvest Moon.  The pumpkins were die cut using the Sizzix "Mini Acorn & Pumpkin Set" die.  The branches and leaves below the pumpkins were cut using the Sizzix "Autumn Gatherings" die.  This die has different branches, acorns and many different leaves.  I love the size of these smaller leaves because you could create wreaths with them or even use the different leaves with floral arrangements you create for your cards.  I wanted to distress both the pumpkins and leaves to make them look more realistic.  Below is a picture to show you how I did this.

 This is a picture showing the Tim Holtz  texture stamp I used.  It is from the "Slight Alterations CMS 060" stamp set.  This stamp set has three different background stamps that I use a lot to add texture.   I inked the stamp up and laid the leaves over it.  Next a piece of computer paper was placed on top and I used a brayer to roll over the stamp to transfer the design to the leaves.  By placing a piece of paper on top, it kept the leaves in place while I brayered over the stamp. I die cut many different colors of leaves and used different colors of ink on the them.  My favorite color ended up being a dark brown ink because the texture did how up the best.  After they were stamp, I used different Distress Inks to sponge each one.  I didn't like flat leaves, so gently wadded them up and shaped them, to create a realistic look.  The pumpkins were also stamped with this texture stamp and were sponged.  The top of the pumpkin was cut out and a green stem, cut with the die, was glued behind the pumpkin.  A stylus was used to draw lines down the pumpkins to make them more realistic.  All the pieces were arranged along the bottom of the card.  The sentiment is from an old JustRite stamp "A Day in the Country".  A burgundy silk bow was added to complete the card.

May Beautiful Moments

 

Today I did something I have been wanting to do for a long time -- make a shaped card using  Spellbinders dies.  I started out by using the largest "Label Eight" Nestie.  I folded over a piece of vanilla card stock and placed the top of the Nestie  cutting line just above the folded edge of the card stock.  This created a folded card in this shape.  You can see that in the second photo.   A second Label Eight was cut out of a single piece of card stock then embossed with the Sizzix "Holly Swirls" (657139) embossing folder.  This embossed label was attached over the folded card.

The Spellbinders "Label Four" Nesties were used to create the frame for the sentiment.  First the largest and next largest labels were taped on the card stock to cut a narrow frame.  Next, just the largest Label Four die was used to cut a solid label.   One of the sentiments from the JustRite "Christmas Nested Sentiments" stamp set was stamped on the label.   Distress Ink was used to sponge all pieces on this card except the narrow Labels Four Frame.  After sponging, the frame was glued over the label matching the outside edges.  One of the Spellbinder "Symbology Shapeabilities" was added to the bottom of the frame.  

The Poinsettia flower was created using the Marianne Designs LR0122 dies.  Below the poinsettia is the Memory Box "Madera Corner".  It is a beautiful flourish with little holly leaves -  it matches the embossed background really well.  This is a new die you can get at Joan's Gardens now.    To finish the card I used another new product from Joan's Gardens called Ranger  "Bisque Liquid Pearls".  I love the color of these pearls. 

I am happy I finally designed a shaped card - it was a lot of fun and  I do like the way it turned out.  As you know, you can purchase any of the products I use from Joan's Gardens.

Santa's Sleigh

 

Today I am having fun working with some more new dies from Joan's Gardens to create a quick and easy Christmas card.  This card does not need much explanation but to tell you what dies I used.  The Cheery Lynn "Santa's Sleigh" (DL 173) is such a pretty die cut, don't you think.  It cut out really easy.  The Christmas Tree is the Marianne Designs (LR0174) tree die.  The hanging sign and bracket are from the Marianne Designs (LR0191) package.  There are three pieces in this set: the bracket, sign, and a lamp.  You can use the bracket for the post for the lamp.  I love it when you can use these die cuts for more than one thing.  The small snowflake is from the Marianne Designs LR0123) package which comes with three snowflakes.  A piece of white card stock was cut with scissors to create snow at the bottom of the card then fine aqua glitter was added to give the card some sparkle.  I used the Quickie Glue Pen to add glue to the areas I wanted to add the glitter.  A small organdy bow was added to complete the card.  This is a 5.5" x 6" card and the design paper is from the KaiserCraft "Chapter One" paper pad.

Now are you wondering about that doily behind the card?  It is not attached to the card because this is a 5.5" x 6" card and it would make it to large.   I couldn't resist using the Cheery Lynn "Mega Italian Flourish" Doily (DL159) for the background.  This doily measures 7.5 x 7.5".  It is a larger version of the small Italian Flourish Doily  (DL103). 

I love how you can complete a very pretty Christmas card by just using dies, don't you.  All these dies are available from Joan's Gardens.

Joan's Weekly Challenge - Create a Box

It is time for another Weekly Challenge at Joan's Gardens.  This week we want to show you how to create a small gift box with a band.  This style box is called "Mini Pizza Box".  There are tutorials on how to create this box at SCS and also Sherry Cheever has a video.  The measurements on my box are the same as these but the way I complete it is a little different, which is explained below.  The band I created is a 1" strip lined with a slightly wider band.  The design paper used on my box is from the Graphic 45 "Christmas Emporium" 12x12" paper pad.  The pretty poinsettia was created using the Heartfelt Creations "Petite Poinsettia Precut Set" (HCPC 3415).  A Cheery Lynn "Holly Flourish (B148) and Geometric Snowflake (DL176) were added under the poinsettia.  The tag is also from the Graphic 45 Christmas Emporium pad.  A small bow was added at the top of the tag.

Mini Pizza Box Tutorial

 Start with a piece of card stock or double sided design paper cut 6" x 11".  Place on ScorPal, with 11" side along the top.  Score at 1", 5", 6", and 10".

Turn paper so 6" side is going across top of ScorPal.  Score at 1" and 5".

Use a bone folder to crease all score lines.  This is where I have changed my directions.  Cut from the short end to create "tabs".  Do this on both ends.  Then cut "tabs" along score lines in the middle of the box.  The reason I want you to cut the tabs from the end is to create a box without the seam showing when looking at it from the front.  There are two pictures below to show you the difference when you cut from the short end and how it will look if you cut the tab on the side.  
 

Place ScorTape or a strong adhesive, on each of the tabs.

Start by folding the center tabs in on one side of the box to form the bottom of the box.  Next fold in the end tabs to form the top and the bottom of the box.

Below are examples of how corners will look according to where you cut the tab.

Front of box will have a smooth front if tabs are cut from the short end.

If you cut your tabs along the side, the front edge of your box will look like this.  The box will work the same but I like the way it looks it the first picture.

Next create a band that will slip off and decorate it.  Cut a 1" strip for a "belly band".  Wrap it around the box, creasing on the corners, and attach ends with a strong adhesive.  This band will slip off the box.  Now you can decorate the band with any embellishments you like and add a tag..

Snowman Popup

This is a Christmas card with a popup center.  It is similar to the one Joan (Joan's Gardens) did for her workshop.  You can see her card here as well as the other projects completed in her workshop this past weekend.  The products I used for this card include:  Sizzix Scallop Circle 3-D popup die; Snowman & Stocking die;  Layered Christmas Tree die; and Holiday Lamppost.  The Christmas Tree was embossed using the Sizzix "Beaded Ribbons" embossing folder.   Cherry Lynn  Victorian Picket Fence (B123); Christmas Light Swag (B131) and Pine Branches (B146) dies were also used.  The sentiment is from JustRite "Deck the Halls".  The embossing folder used for the background is the Sizzix Triad Leaves.  VersaMark Ink was rubbed on the inside of the embossing folder, on the raised side, then run through embossing machine.  Clear embossing powder was sprinkled over the background then heat set.  Distressed stains were used to color it.  Below the edge of the scallop popup, the Memory Box "Frosty Border" was added.

The Penny Black "Village Christmas" stamp was used for the front of the card.  The Marianne Designs "Ice cycles" (LR0135) border was used at the top.

 When I started this card, my goal was to use the new Sizzix, Mini Tattered Leaves which are repositionable Magnetic dies. Joan had sent me a few other Magnetic Dies and they are fun to work with.  I had no idea where this was going to take me.  I must admit though that I was having so much fun that I just kept die cutting different things and do have quiet a list of products used on this card. 

The design paper is from the BoBunny "Forever Fall Collection".  The die cut below the arrangement is the Cheery Lynn "Princess Garden Frame" (FRM126).  It was sponged using " Vintage Photo" Distress Ink.  The sentiment is from the JustRite "Autumn Blessings Set".  The pretty corner was die cut using one of the Marianne Design corner dies.  

This card started by die cutting the Sizzix Mini Tattered Leaves using different colors of card stock.  They were painted using different colors of Distress Stains.  Some of the leaves have 4 or 5 different colors on them.  Once I was happy with the colors, I used a "word" background stamp from Wendy Veccchi's "Botanical Art"  set and stamp over the leaves (just for "interest"). They were brushed lightly with the Adrinondak "Gold" Acrylic Paint Dabber then they were placed in (are you going to believe this?) the Sizzix Snow Flurries embossing folder to give them texture. Three or four leaves were each placed on a snowflake in the embossing folder,  then embossed.   Next they were rubbed on a VersaMark Ink pad and clear embossed and shaped while they were still warm.  Sounds like a lot of work, but it was really fun working with them and I do like the way they turned out.. 

The rest of the card went together very quickly because it was just die cutting and arranging everything.The flowers were created with a variety of dies.  The two flowers with the yellow stamen were created with the Cheery Lynn "Judy's Bloom" (C184) die. The flower in the corner was created using the Mariann Designs LR0 128, 168, and 169 dies.  Each of these flower petals were cut down toward the center for a fringe look.   I don't know if you can see that in the photo. They were all shaped using the Flower Tool Kit.  Stamens were punched using the Punch a Bunch medium  "Sky Flake"  punch.  

The three  pinecones were created by using YES glue and 25 punched small pears for each one.  I had these made prior to starting my card..  I do have a tutorial on my blog on how to create these pinecones.  A few more "pretties" were die cut to add to the arrangement -- Marianne Decorative Elegance (both dies) (LR0157; Forest Branch (LR0150) and Garden Branch (LR0151).  After the card was arranged, it was sprayed with "Cappucino"  Perfect Pearls Mist.
