Let It Snow

Today I have another snowman card.  I do not like to "exactly" copy someone else's work, but I love to draw inspiration from them.  On Els van de Burgt Studio, on Facebook,  Els shows how to create a cute snowman card using her Snowman Peel Off Stickers.  Here is the LINK so you can see how she adds Silk Microfine Glitter to these cute snowmen.  I bet you will be inspired to create this card too!

 

This is a picture of Els card.  It is so cute I was excited to create one similar. To create this card, you need the Elizabeth Craft Snowman in Frame  Peel Off Stickers.  Below I will show you how I created my snowman card.

I wanted a black frame around each of the four snowmen.  I used Susan's Garden Patch 1 1/2 Inch Garden Patch frame.  I die cut the frame using white card stock with Elizabeth Craft Clear Double Sided Tape on the the top.  This die cuts the squares I needed to attach the snowman stickers. Be sure you have the die facing down on the Adhesive.  Once die cut, you need to pull off the adhesive covering on each square, so the adhesive side is up, so you can add the glitter.

Two black frames were die cut.  These had the Clear Double Sided Adhesive attached to the back.  In this picture the frame is laying over the adhesive, just so you know to use the adhesive -- but you want to die cut the frame with the die facing the black card stock.  The two frames will be attached to each other for height - this is easy to do when using the double-sided adhesive on the back. When ready, the  bottom frame will be attached to the card.

In this picture, you can see the that the snowmen have been attached to the white card stock die cut squares.  If you watch Els video, you will see how to add Cool Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter on everything except the face of the snowman. Then she shows you how to add White Silk Microfine Glitter to the face.  You will be coloring everthing except the white face of the snowman.

I have my snowmen ready to color with Copic Markers and here I show the snowman squares inside the Garden Patch frame.  The frame has six squares so I used the Elizabeth Craft Scissors to snip off the bottom row.

 

 Cut off the bottom section and now you have the four squares to frame the snowmen.  If you have doubled the frame, the snowmen squares fit down inside each square.  You might need to trim a small portion off around the sticker frame of the snowman.

I used several layers of white card stock on the front of this card.  The layer right under the snowman frame was embossed with the Lots of Dots Embossing Folder.  To make the dots shine, I rubbed the VersaMark Pad over the dots then brushed on Interference Blue Pearl Ex Pigment, then lightly sprayed with hair spray to seal it.  The Quietfire Creations "Let It Snow" stamp was used below the frames.  I scored lines around the edge of this piece and three lines at the bottom.  There is another, slightly larger piece of card stock behind the embossed piece.  The outside edges were scored then using a Tim Holtz Ruler, punched holes next to the scoring.  All layers were attached with dimensional tape.

For the large black frame, I used Els Fitted Frames 4 - Curvy Squares.  On each corner of the black frame, I added a silver Peel-off Snowflake stickers.

With Sympathy

 Seems I have been working to complete a lot of Christmas cards, but have missed working with Susan's other beautiful flower dies.  Today I created a sympathy card using the "A Way With Words" Sympathy die by Quietfire.  

The flowers I added to the card include Susan's Garden Dogwood above the sentiment.  Below the sentiment I used Susan's Garden Hydrangea.  Susan's also has a smaller hydrangea in her Susan's Garden Note Hydrangea die set, so you have a choice of two sizes.  The larger white flowers were created using the Susan's Garden Anemone dies.   For pretty little fillers,  the small flowers were created with the daisy dies in the Garden Patch - 1-inch & Mini Daisy & Chrysanthemum die set.  These little daisies match the flowers in the design paper.

In the corners, I added ECD  White Velvet Peel-off Sticker Corners and also White Velvet Peel-off Corner Sticker Lines across the upper and lower portions of the card.

Decorating Design Paper with Susan's Flowers

Today I have designed a card using the Graphic 45 Botanical Tea Design Paper as a background for some of Susan's pretty flowers.

This piece of design paper, out of the 8"x8" paper pad, was cut down to 6"x6" to fit my card.  To give the card dimension, I (somewhat) duplicated the flowers in the design paper.  In the center I created a pink rose using Susan's Garden Rose 1 dies.  At the top of the rose, are two white lilies created with the Susan's Notes Lily dies.   A few little daisies were placed around the rose.  They were die cut using the Garden Patch Daisy/Chrysanthemum dies. All these flowers were attached over the flowers in the design paper.    On the left lower corner I added a branch of purple lilacs created with Susan's Garden Notes Lilac dies (which are not in the design paper).

Here is a closeup photo of the flowers. Creating my own similar flowers added a lot of interest to this pretty design paper.

Tag with Garden Patch Mini Dasies in Wheelbarrow

 Don't you love to receive a gift with a pretty tag!   Today I wanted to fill the ECD Wheelbarrow with Susan's Garden Patch Daisies.  The wheelbarrow was die cut and colored with Copic markers then filled with grass from Susan's CountryScapes - Country Flora grass. 

 

The smallest daisy in the Garden Patch 1-inch & Mini Daisy and Chrysanthemum die set was used to fill the wheelbarrow.

The ECD tag used is the Tags and More 8 - Lattice die. There are a lot of embellishments in this set - I used two at the top, one under the sentiment, and one at the bottom of the tag.   The lattice tag was die cut twice - once using white card stock then a second one die cut using design paper.  They were glued together.  The edges of the tag were sponged with matching Distress Ink.

I really enjoy trying to find many ways to use my dies.  I used the Lorna Label PopUp die to create a label for the sentiment. 

 I die cut the PopUp and cut it away from the frame.  You can see in this picture which portion I used.  I left the top popup portion on the label because I wanted it to have the label dimensional on my tag.  Only the top portion is a pop up. The bottom part lays down on the tag.  You could write a personal note on this side, if you wanted to. 

 This is how the PopUp looks from the side, on the tag.  Before attaching the PopUp Label to the tag, I used Susan's Hope Sentiment Stamp.  The edges of the label was sponged and an embellishment from the Lorna Label PopUp die set added. 

To complete this tag, I added light green flat-backed pearls and a bird embellishment from my stash.

Hope I have given you inspiration to create a pretty tag for someone special.

More New CountryScapes dies

 Today I designed a Get Well card using some of Susan's new CountryScapes dies that are coming soon at Elizabeth Craft Designs.  This is a 4 1/2" x 6" card.  The dies used for the vase of flowers are in the CountryScapes - Backyard 2 die set.  The tall greenery behind the flowers is a die cut from the CountryScapes - Woods 2 set.  The white background was embossed with the Elizabeth Craft Designs Damask embossing folder. I distressed the edges of this piece. The tag used in the center, is from the ECD Tags & More 5 - Sunburst die set.  The row of dots under the tag were die cut with one of the dies from the same tag set.  The scallop oval was die cut using one of the dies from the Accordion Oval Card set.  The pretty butterflies are from Susan's Garden Notes - Bugs & Butterflies.  For the sentiment I used stickers from ECD. 

Below I will show you how I created the vase of flowers.

 In this picture you can see the little flowers I shaped from the CountryScapes - Backyard 2 set.  In this set you also get the vase and the leaves you use to place the flowers on -- this is the large green piece on the black molding pad in the upper right corner.  I have shaped that piece to give dimension to the flowers.  I wanted to add more greenery behind the flowers, so I die cut the leaves shown, which are from the Garden Patch - 7/8-inch & Mini Leaves die set.  These little leaves look just like the ones on the larger leaf piece.  To make them realistic, I shaped each leaf with the smallest ball stylus from Susan's Tool Set.  Just press down lightly on the front side of each little leaf (on the molding pad), then turn it over and press on the stem to give it shape. 

 I started assembling the vase of flower by gluing the tall greenery behind the vase.  (The vase is from the CountryScapes - Backyard 2 die set.)  Next I attached the greenery from the same set at the top of the vase using a dimensional glue dot. 

The small leaves where glued down on the large green leaf die cut, overlapping them to create fullness.  

The tiny shaped flowers were attached over the leaves.  It is easiest to use the self-closing tweezers from Susan's Tool Set to pick up the little flowers, dip the back in glue and place them over the leaves.  Add as many flowers as you like over the leaves.

Dogwood Shadow Box

Today is my turn to design a project for Susan's Design Team on the Elizabeth Craft Designs Blog.  I created a dogwood flower shadow box with Susan's Garden - Dogwood dies. Dogwood flowers are either white or pink. I love the delicate pink flowers so that is what I have created for this shadow box.

 The finished shadow box is 6"x 6". With the pretty lacy top, the height is 7-1/2". On the side, I created an accordion fold so it will push down flat. The instructions are below.

1. Creating the flowers: Die cut all the petals using white cardstock. Use the Leaf Tool from Susan's Garden All Metal Flower Tool Set to draw vertical lines on each petal, as shown in the picture below. Then use the medium-sized ball stylus to shape each petal on the backside.

2.  To create the color of my flowers, I used the picture above to try and duplicate the delicate pink on the petals.

3.  Above is a picture of the dogwoods I created.

4. To achieve this coloring, use Rouge Pan Pastel (light pink) across most of the petal leaving the top and base of the petal white. Next, rub in Magenta Pan Pastel in the center, blending it well over the light pink Pan Pastel.  As a rule, I generally color my petals before shaping, but for this flower, I found it was easier to get the color in the middle by bending the shaped petal over my finger and applied the Pan Pastel with Fantastix Coloring Tool Brush Point.

5. Next the four shaped petals were glued to the calyx (base) die cut piece. Once the petals have dried on the calyx, you can use the tweezers to add additional shaping.

6. To create the stamen, use the Fine Pointed Scissors to cut between each stamen projection to make them thin.  The stamen was then rolled and glued closed and placed in the center of the flower using the self-closing tweezers in Susan's Tool Set. Once the stamen was firmly attached in the center of the flower, add Viva Light Moss Green Paper Pen to the tips of each stamen. Put a very tiny dot on both the front and back of each projection.

7. I wanted to create a shadow box that would fold down flat. Start with a piece of 18" x 12" cardstock and cut it down to 18" x 6".  To create accordion sides, score it at 4-1/2",  5",  5-1/2", 11-1/2", 12" and 12-1/2".

8. The picture above shows how the accordion sides are folded. To create the accordion folds, with top side up, create a valley fold on the center score line and a mountain fold on the two outside lines. Do the same thing on the other score lines. Crease the folds well with a brayer or Bone Folder tool.

9.  Use Susan's Garden Patch - 1 1/2-inch grid die for the window.

 

 10. The die was taped to the front of the card in between the score lines and die cut. This will fit because the card is 6" tall.

 

11. The grid die cut a perfect opening for the Shadow Box. I did not use the little squares, but did use the die cut frame for the inside of the box.

12.  Before attaching the Shimmer Sheet to the inside of the card, the panels on the back of the shadow box were taped down with transparent Double Sided Tape, to create the box.  To get the back panel folded exactly right, a piece of 6x6 inch card stock was placed in the back scored lines then the back panels were taped down.  When you place the colored 6"x6" card stock in the back, you will get a perfectly square box.

13.  This photo shows how the back pieces overlap.  A 6x6 inch piece of card stock is glued to the back of the card to finish the backside.

14.  For a pretty background for the dogwoods, I used a piece of the ECD Pink Iridescent Shimmer Sheet and embossed it using the ECD Heart Strings Embossing Folder.  The white die cut Grid was glued over the Shimmer Sheet (it is not glued together in this picture).    Next, the shadow box was pressed down in a flat position, and the grid was glued in so it perfectly fit inside the die cut opening.

 

15.  To complete the shadow box, I used Purple/Silver Glitter border stickers on each side of the opening then attached additional dogwoods.  Across the top of the box I added two Paris Edges die cuts.  One was glued to the inside of the front and the other cut shorter and glued to the top side of the frame.  A piece of glitter paper from the edge of the glitter border was used at the top of the opening and along the bottom, I used some of the "scraps" from both the Paris Edge die cut and the from the border sticker sheet.

Cute Daffodils

I finally have daffodils blooming in my yard.  I love creating these mini daffodils using Susan's Garden Patch Mini Daffodil dies.  I selected the cute Elizabeth Craft Designs Flower Cuties Peel Off Sticker to coordinate with the mini daffodils.  ECD Silk Microfine Diamond Glitter was used over Transparent Double Sided Tape and colored and the image colored with Copic Markers.  The image was backed with a piece of black card stock. 

 These little daffodils look like they might be hard to create but are very easy.  You glue the five bottom petals to the calyx (base) piece then roll the center and glue the edge to create the up right part; glue this piece in the center of the petals.  The stamen is then glued down in the flower.  I added Susan's Yellow Pollen to the ends of the stamens before gluing them in the flower.  One of the things that I think makes the daffodils look very real, is to use the self-closing tweezers and roll the top edge of the flower out to resemble a real daffodil; I think you can see the rolled edges in this photo.  The flowers were shaped using Susan's Flower Tool Set.

Roses in my Garden

I love roses and had so much fun creating these little flowers using the Garden Patch - Mini Rose dies.  These roses are very small so it was fun creating a lot of them to climb up the Elizabeth Craft Design Trellis.  The rose petals were die cut using pink card stock.  I created some of them in full bloom and some are just rose buds.  

The Bamboo Trellis was created using a sheet of Elizabeth Craft Designs Clear Double Sided Adhesive attached to a piece of white card stock.  To make the Trellis to stand out from the white embossed background, I added ECD Silk Cool Diamond Microfine Glitter to it. You pour the glitter over the sticky sheet and rub it in to make it very shiny.   To make the Trellis sturdier, I die cut another one, using white card stock, and glued the glittered Trellis over it. 

The embossed background was created with the ECD Spring Leaves embossing folder.  This is a 6"x6" card so I embossed the left half of the card stock, then embossed the right half, to get full coverage.  The design matched up perfect. 

At the top of the card I used the ECD Paris Edges die.  It was die cut on a piece of 6x6 inch card stock then the embossed piece was glued below the die cut design.  In the Paris Edges dies, there is a long die that I created the pink trim with, under the die cut piece.  I used the negative of that die cut at the top, and the positive piece at the bottom of the card. 

The Trellis was attached with dimensional tape in the center of the card.  The roses were attached with Glue Dots and pieces of the ECD die cut Berry Branch were tucked (glued) around the flowers.  This branch goes well with the Embossing Folder and looks pretty for a filler behind the flowers.  In the center of the Trellis, I added the sentiment, which are ECD stickers.  

To ground the Trellis, I added grass,  die cut using the CountryScapes - Background 1 dies.  I die cut the watering can from that same die set using brushed silver card stock.  The little squirrel is die cut from the CountryScapes - Country Critters 1 die set.  

The butterflies were die cut using the tiny butterfly from the ECD Butterfly Pivot Card.  I used two of the die cuts for each butterfly.  The bottom one was colored a darker yellow.  To finish the card, I added corners die cut from the ECD Tags & More 7 - Vine die set.  They were also glittered like the Trellis. 

 Susan's flowers always look so realistic; it doesn't matter if you are using the large flower dies or these mini dies.   Aren't they beautiful!
