Turtle Fun

I always love to find a turtle when we are out around water. This card will be especially fun to give to one of my grandsons!

You know why I LOVE working with die cuts?  It is because you can be as creative as you want to create many different designs (scenes), using a variety of techniques and or supplies for color.  You can create something very simple or use a lot of die cuts to create a complete scene.

Today I have designed a card using a variety of the new Elizabeth Craft Designs, Joset Designs die sets.  I love working with Joset Designs dies because she has a variety that are fun to create cards for anyone - male, kids, friends, birthdays, holidays, etc.  Here is the LINK to check out all the Joset Designs Products.

The background was created using two pieces of Time For Teal - Soft Finish Cardstock.  I wanted to make the card dimensional so I used the largest Els van de Burgt Studio Fitted Ovals Frame to cut an oval opening in one piece of the card stock.  The oval was attached over the other piece of Teal card stock using dimensional tape.

The dies used to create the scene include Joset Designs Turtle, Boat (for the waves), Seaweed, Small Shells, and Large Shells; Els van de Burgt Studio Circles, and Bead Strings 2 die sets.

White Soft Finish Cardstock was used to die cut the two Turtle pieces and were colored by sponging on a combination of green and rust inks.  Small dots were added to the solid background die cut to give it texture, then the overlay glued on.  A tiny bead was added to the eye and a fine tip marker used to draw in the mouth and around the nose.

I used card stock from my stash to die cut all the other pieces; 3 Seaweed,  2 Waves, Large and Small Shells, Circles, and  3 Bead Strings-2 borders.  The Waves and Seaweed were attached behind the die cut Oval opening.  The large Circle die cut was attached to the bottom piece of Teal card stock and the Turtle attached with dimensional glue dots over the Circle die cut.  All other die cuts were attached on the top, around the large oval opening.

To create the border around the die cut oval, the Bead Strings-2, border was cut in small pieces to fit around the opening (I used 2 die cut borders).  The circles outside the die cut oval are  discarded pieces left from the Circles die cut, which is behind the Turtle.

New Quietfire Creations Stamps

I have been posting cards using dies from the three new A Way With Words die sets, and today I am posting a card using one of the 11 new Quietfire Creations stamp sets that will be available very soon.  Here is the LINK for you to see all the new Quietfire Creations releases.

It was a hard decision to decide on which stamp set to use first.  I decided to use the "How Lovely is the Silence" (Item #5928) on this card.  The sentiment was stamped on a white rectangle die cut using a new die set from Elizabeth Craft Designs called "Dotted Scallop Rectangles.  One of the dies from the ECD  Bead Strings 2 die set was used for the border die cuts along the bottom of the card and under the stamped sentiment.

The flower was created with Susan's Garden Hydrangea die set and attached with dimensional glue dots.  In the upper corners of the die cut rectangle, I added two corners from the Corners 1 die set.

I often receive emails wanting to know how I store my crafting products.  Since I just received all the new Quietfire Creations stamp sets, I thought I would show you what I do before using them.

The stamps come on a white plastic backing for storing the stamps, along with a description sheet.   These are inside a clear envelope.  I remove the stamps from the clear envelope.  I like to have the description sheet attached to the back of the stamps, so I use two strips of my Elizabeth Craft Designs, Clear Double Sided Adhesive, on each side of the white plastic then center it over the description sheet, so it is attached to the stamps.  I don't like to store my stamps in the clear envelope because they slide around.  By adding the tape to the back of the stamp set and attaching the description, it is easy to store the stamps in a tray so it is easy to flip through to find the set I want to use.

I hope this give you an idea you may find helpful.

Adventure Awaits

Today I had fun creating an underwater scene using Joset Designs Seahorse and Seaweed dies that will be available soon from Elizabeth Craft Designs.  It is so fun to work with dies because you can use your imagination for, creating different scenes by using several different die sets.

For the background I used a piece of Els van de Burgt Studio, Stone, Through The Lens, Design Cardstock.  The bottom edge was sponged brown to create the bottom of the sea.

Seahorse

Both pieces of Joset's Seahorse were die cut twice, to create depth.  I used Embossing Paste to create texture on one of the backing and one of the overlay pieces.  Once dry, both pieces were attached to the second matching die cut.  Distress Ink was used to color the wet Embossing Paste and to sponge around the edges of the seahorse, once it was dry.

Seaweed

Using Joset's Seaweed die set, three coral pieces were die cut.  Before die cutting, a piece of Clear Double Sided Adhesive was added to the card stock and the die placed on the Adhesive side, to die cut.  I needed a sticky surface to add some beaded embellishment, from my stash that I thought created a coral like surface.

Using Green Iris Shimmer Sheetz, I die cut two ocean plants and attached them together with a small strip of Clear Double  Sided Adhesive. The tips of the ocean plants were twisted to give them a floating effect in the water.

Using the Seaweed die set again, three sets of the sand were die cut.  I had a bottle of craft sand on hand, so added glue to the top of the die cut sand and sprinkled on sand.  (I should have die cut the sand using Clear Double Sided Adhesive because it would have been easier than adding glue to the die cuts then pouring on sand!)

The scene wouldn't be complete without a fish, so I used one of the Elizabeth Craft Designs Stickers.  Glitter was added to a piece of Clear Double Sided Adhesive and several colors of Silk Microfine Glitter added, then rubbed in for shine.   The overlay sticker was attached over the glittered piece and cut out with scissors around the edges of the fish.

Joset Designs will have new Sentiment stamps out soon.  I don't have these yet, so I used one of Karen Burniston's "What's Up?" stamps.  It was stamped using VersaFine Black Ink and die cut using the smallest Els van de Burgt Studio Dotted Scallop Oval dies.  Before taking it out of the die, blue ink was sponged over the edges.

You can create this same scene, without the extra embellishments,  by using the dies to die cut colored card stock or using white card stock and coloring or sponging on the color.  If you are reading the  Elizabeth Craft Designs Blog and Facebook pages, you will find other cards created with these die sets for other ideas.  I have created this card using extra embellishments from my stash, to hopefully give you some ideas and inspiration to look in your crafting supplies to see ways to use some of your crafting products, to add something a little different on your cards.

Memories

We all have Memories and what better way to save them in a special box. I have many fun memories of visiting my son and his family in San Diego when we would go sailing over to Coronado Island and also spending time on the beaches.  Having a special box to save small sea shells and other small collectibles, along with pictures, is something you can easily open to relive these memories.

It was easy to create a beautiful box depicting what my memories are by using Joset's new release Boat die set and the new A Way With Words Memories die.

This is a picture of the card I created using these dies.

For the background, I used a piece of the Els van de Burgt Studio, Through the Lens Stone Cardstock.  A blue card stock was cut to create a frame over the design paper. The edges were beveled using a ScorePal.  Gold Line Stickers were added to this frame.

The Boat was die cut using White Soft Finish Cardstock, colored, and assembled.  A Frame for the boat was created using the Fitted Circle dies and the new Dotted Scallop Circle dies.  A backing frame was die cut with the Dotted Scallop Circle.  A piece of black and white twine was used around the scallop circle and black star stickers, from the Christmas Wishes Sticker Sheet, were added for decoration.  The edges were sponged with Tea Dye Distress Ink.

Using the Boat die set, two waves were die cut using blue card stock.  they were glued together, alternating points.  A white marker was used to create white wave tips then glitter added over the white marks.  This piece was glued to the bottom of the blue circle leaving the top edge free of glue so you can tuck in the boat.

This frame was attached to the blue Doted Scallop Circle die cut.  Add glue to the boat and tuck it in under the waves and so it fits well within the frame.

Die cut the A Way With Words - Memories sentiment using white card stock.  Die cut the wheel , from the Boat die set using Gold Shimmer Sheetz.

For the fish and sea shells, I used the Lighthouse Black Stickers.  The stickers were placed over a piece of card stock that was covered with Clear Double Sided Adhesive.  Different colors of Silk Microfine Glitter was used to color these pieces.

The Frame was attached over the Through the Lens Design Paper and attached to the center of the square cigar box.  All the pieces were attached as shown in the photo.

To further decorate the box I used one of Els van de Burgt Studio Bead Strings 2 dies to decorate the sides.  They were die cut using shiny gold card stock.  The small circles from the center of the Bead Strings 2 die were saved and used to go around the framed picture.  Gold Line Stickers were used below the frame for extra elegance.

I hope I have given you inspiration to create your own Memories box.

Beautiful Wisteria

Good Morning.  Today I am posting the card I designed for my Susan's Garden Design Team Blog Post at Elizabeth Craft Designs.  This card is designed using Susan’s Spring Release,  CountryScapes Wisteria Vine die set; the new dies will be available very soon.    I have been excited to show you these beautiful flowers, which combine well with some of Susan's other CountryScapes dies.
Here is how you can create this card:
  1.  This is a 6×6 inch card.  Use a piece of Soft White Cardstock 6 inches by 12 inches and fold in half.
  2.   Cut a piece of Soft Sky Soft Finish Cardstock slightly smaller for background.
  3.  Use Susan’s CountryScapes Cloud/Grass die set to die cut cloud stencil.  Use Memento Luxe Wedding Dress ink to sponge white ink into cloud stencil to create clouds in the sky.
  4. Use Susan’s Brown Pan Pastel to sponge on the very bottom of the card front to resemble dirt.  This will look like a dirt path under the gate.
  5. Die cut all the pieces for the vine using the CountryScapes Wisteria Vine dies.  The number of flower petals and leaves you will die cut depends on how full you want your vine.  I love Wisteria so I have die cut a lot of pieces.  The leaves were glued to the vine first, then all the Wisteria flowers were glued on.  A few extra leaves were then glued around some of the flowers to create a full vine.
  6. Use the CountryScapes Nantucket Arbor & Picket Fence die set to die cut two fence pieces and one gate.  Shade die cut pieces with the Light Grey Pan Pastel.  Add a brad for gate knob.  Sides of fence will need to be trimmed down when scene is assembled.
  7. Use the Country Scapes Cloud/Grass die set to die cut several grass die cuts.  I cut between each of the blades of grass using the Elizabeth Craftfine pointed scissors, then glued several die cuts together, to create thick grass.
  8. Stamp Susan’s Seeds of Thought “Take Time” stamp on another piece of the Soft Sky, Soft Finish Cardstock.  Trim around the sentiment with scissors,
  9. Die cut two corners from the Els van de Burgt Studio Corners 1 die set, for the upper corners.
  10. Use the Garden Notes Bugs & Butterfly dies to die cut three butterflies.  Sponge on desired color using Pan Pastels or Distress Ink.
  11. Assemble all die cut pieces as shown and glue the sentiment to the left side of the gate.
Creating a beautiful Country Scene, such as this, always makes me smile and feel very happy.  I think anyone receiving this card will feel the same way.

Good Morning.  I am so excited to share with you the dies that will be in the new Elizabeth Craft Designs, Susan Tierney-Cockburn collection that will be released soon.  There are 7 new die sets and I have a picture below showing all the beautiful things you can create. The above card was designed using Susan's new Garden Notes Bouquet Stems & Branches die set.

Garden Notes Bouquet Stems & Branches
This is a picture of the Garden Notes Bouquet Stems & Branches die set that I used.  The set includes Stems that you can use to create any type of Bouquet, plus two different branch sizes that you can use as fillers behind your flowers.

For my Bouquet above, I chose to create roses created with Susan's Garden Notes - Rose 2 dies.  The frames I used were die cut using the new  Els van de Burgt Studio Dotted Scallop Oval dies.  Dimensional tape was used between layers for dimension.

I have created all the flowers from Susan's new release and have them laid out on a poster board to show you all the new die sets. I will be posting cards with these beautiful flowers during the next few weeks. The new dies include: Garden Notes Carnation, Garden Notes Bouquet Stems & Branches, Garden Notes Iris, Garden Notes Rose Hedge, Garden Notes Jasmine, CountryScapes Wisteria Vine, and CountryScapes Lavender.

New Elizabeth Craft Designs Dies

Today is an exciting day at Elizabeth Craft Designs.  The designers have been very busy creating cards using the new products that will be released later this month.  Today we will begin posting projects to give you a preview of these exciting new products, so you can start your Wish List.

This card was created using the new Joset Designs Dolphin die set. Two Dolphins were die cut using Blue Metallic Shimmer Sheetz.  A tiny black bead was added to the eye and the extra little fin glued to the body.

The white frame for this scene was die cut using the new Els van de Burgt Dotted Scallop Squares. These Dotted Scallop dies will also be available in Circles, Ovals and Rectangles.   Once the white frame was die cut, I placed one of the decorative Tags & More 9 - Sparkle dies, that to me would looks like a water splash if the Dolphin was jumping up out of the water, a the bottom to die cut the "splash".   I really like how this looks.  At the bottom edge of that frame, I used the "Wave" die from another new Joset Designs die set called Boat. The Wave, and the Water Dropplets were die cut using Blue Metallic Shimmer Sheetz.  A piece of Blue Metallic Shimmer Sheetz was glued behind the die cut splash design, and the Wave was glued to the very bottom edge.

The Sun die, from the Joset Designs Rainbow Sky die set, was used to die cut the sun out of Yellow Iris Shimmer Sheetz.   Two white clouds were die cut using the cloud dies from the same die set.

This is a 6x6 inch card.  A slightly smaller piece of white card stock was cut and the edges scored to give it a finished look; it was glued to the card base. The Dotted Scallop Frame was attached to a slightly larger blue Stitched Square.  There is dimensional tape on the back of both these frames to give them dimension.

There are a lot of new products coming out at Elizabeth Craft Designs.  Be sure to check out both the Blog and Facebook page for a lot of inspiration and news about new products.

Fun On The Beach

Good Morning.  This is the card I designed for my Design Team Blog Post at Elizabeth Craft Designs.

It is always fun to go to the beach for some summer fun.  Today I used three of the Joset Designs die sets; Lighthouse, Rainbow Sky, and Hot Air Balloons to create a fun card.  Also Els van de Burgt Studio Stitched Frames, Fitted Frames and a piece of her WoodThrough The Lens card stock was used.
Steps for creating this card:
  1.  Use a 6x6 inch what card.  Attach a piece of tan corrugated card board to the front. You can purchase this type of board from the craft store or use a piece of card board from a box.
  2. Use the largest frame from the Square Stitched Frames die set and the second largest Square in the Fitted Frame die cut to die cut a Navy blue frame.
  3.  Using the Lighthouse die set, die cut the solid (background) Lighthouse shape, using a piece of the Wood, Through The Lens Patterned Cardstock.  It is fun to go through the pages of Through The Lens Patterned Cardstock to find some very interesting patterns for small die cut pieces.  The piece I chose makes it look like pealed paint on the Lighthouse.   Use black card stock to die cut the Lighthouse overlay.  Glue the two pieces together.  If you use the Elizabeth Craft Designs Clear Double Sided Adhesive on the back of the black card stock, it is very easy to peel off the backing and attach over the Patterned Cardstock.
  4. Use the Rainbow Sky die set to die cut two clouds and the sun.
  5.  Use the Lighthouse die set to die cut the Anchor using blue card stock.
  6. Use the Hot Air Balloon die set to die cut three yellow Stars.
  7. Cut a small rectangle out of red card stock that measures 1 1/4 x 1 1/2 inches.
  8. Use piece of twine and wrap it around the anchor, gluing in place on the back.  Attach the anchor and three stars to the red rectangle.
  9. Using a piece of gunny sack material, cut a 2 1/2 x 2 1/4 inch rectangle.  Fray the edges by pulling out some of the strings.  Use Clear Double Sided Adhesive on the back of this piece, to make it easy to attach to the blue card stock.
  10.  Attach the red rectangle at an angle on the frayed gunny sack piece.  I used dimensional glue dots to attach.
  11. Cut a piece of blue card stock measuring 2 3/4 x 2 1/2 inches.   Pull the backing off the Clear Double Sided Adhesive and attach the gunny sack piece to the blue card stock.  I used deckle scissors to trim the blue card stock close to the frayed gunny sack piece.
  12. The sentiment for this card was created by using Alphabet Stickers.  I had a brass frame, in my stash, I used to go around the sentiment.  This frame was attached with Clear Double Sided Adhesive.
  13. Use Clear Double Sided Adhesive to attach all die cut pieces.  Start by attaching the blue Stitched Frame over the corrugated card board, leaving the inside edges free.  Tuck the clouds under the top edge of the frame and then attach the sun under one of the clouds.  Make sure you are leaving enough room to attach the square with the anchor.  Attach the framed sentiment.
Are you ready for a little fun in the sun!

Get Well Soon

Would you like to cheer up someone not feeling well?  You can create beautiful cards using any of the A Way With Words dies.

Get Well Soon - Metal Cutting Die

This is a 6x6 inch card.  The Elizabeth Craft Designs Stitched Squares and Fitted Squares dies were used to die cut a 5 1/4"  frame, using white card stock.  Another piece of white card stock, slightly smaller, was used to die cut the Tim Holtz Diamond Corner.  This piece was glued to the back of the Stitched Frame, then attached to a slightly larger piece of aqua card stock.

Five flowers were die cut using Susan's Garden Notes Cosmos dies.  After shaping and assembling the flowers, they were attached in the lower left corner.

A piece of aqua card stock was back with Clear Double Sided Adhesive, then the A Way With Words dies were used to die cut Get Well Soon.  With the Clear Double Sided Adhesive on the back of the die cut words, it was easy to attach them to the front of the card.

I am sure a sick friend or family member would love to receive a hand-made card such as this! I encourage you to click on the link at the top of my side-bar to view the A Way With Words eBook for a lot of great ideas -- it is free!

Happy

I hope you are having a nice weekend.  Today I have created a 5x7" card using Kraft card stock.  Using a separate piece of Kraft card stock, I used the Els van de Burgt Studio Tags & More 9 - Sparkle die, to cut the design at the top of the card.  A slate blue card stock was attached behind the die cut opening.

One of Els Stitched Ovals was die cut using the slate blue card stock then a smaller Fitted Oval die used to die cut a piece of Els Through The Lens - Wood card stock.  These two pieces were glued under the die cut in the Kraft card stock.

To create the flowers, I used Susan's Garden Notes Daffodil dies and die cut three daffodils, three stems, and extra leaves.  They were arranged on the oval frame as shown.

The A Way With Words "Happy" was die cut using that die from the Happy Anniversary die set.  The sentiment was die cut three times and glued together to create dimension.  It was glued over the base of the flowers.  On the bottom corners of the card, I glued two of the discarded pieces from the top die cut, just to interest.

This card was created to let someone know I am happy about something that happened to them.
