Joan's Gardens Weekly Challenge

It is time for a new challenge at Joan's Gardens. We all need tags for our Christmas gifts, so this week we want you to create a Christmas Tag for this challenge.  Please go over to Joan's Gardens to see all the information about the challenge and see what the prize will be for the winner this week. 

I used the Tim Holtz "Tag & Bookplates" die to die cut my tag. I love having this die because it makes it so easy to die cut any color tag you need.  There are also two different Bookplates on this die.   To give the tag background texture, I used the eBosser "Delicate Dots" embossing folder.  The poinsettia was die cut using the Tim Holtz "Tattered Poinsettia" die.  I only used the two smallest of the three poinsettia flowers for this tag.  To give the flower some "glitz" I used Glue N' Seal and sprinkled on "Twinklets Diamond Dust".  This is a chunky glitter and I really love it on the flower petals.  In the center of the flowers I added white pearls.  

The beautiful design behind the poinsettia are two of the Spellbinders "Flourish Trim" die cuts.  They were glued to the tag with the straight edges together.  Another "Flourish Trim" was die cut for the top edge.  It was a little longer than I wanted it, so I used scissors to trim part of the flourish off on each end.  A piece of white card stock was attached to the back of the navy blue tag.  Kaiser Craft pearls were added to the corners, on the flourish and in the flower center.  A white organdy bow was made with a "Bow Easy" and attached with a glue dot.

My Die Storage System

Today I thought I would share with you my die cutting area and how I store all my dies.   As you know, Joan's Gardens sells so many different dies that I design with,  and in order to have them in some kind of order, I have filed them in notebooks.  In this picture you can see the blue notebooks which contain all my dies.   I store these notebooks right by my eBosser and all my card stock. These are the Martha Stewart Notebooks you can only purchase at Staples.  She also has three different  styles of insert sheets that I use to store the dies in. Staples does have a whole Center of Martha Stewart organization and office supplies.   

This is a picture of dies in one of the inserts that has two separated pockets.  Each pocket measures 5" x 8".  On the top of each open sleeve is a little flap that closes the opening so any loose dies do not fall out.  These are also in the Martha Stewart Center at Staples.

This picture shows dies in one of the inserts that has four separate pockets. These pockets are 5" x 4".  There is also an insert that does not have any dividers that I use for the long border dies, which would measure 10" x 8".  I did not take a picture of that pocket.

In order for the dies to stay in place in each pocket, I purchased Magnetic Vent Covers from Home Depot that at 8"x15".  These are the perfect size to cut 3 pieces that are 5"x8", then I can cut these in half to make 4" x 4" squares for the smallest pockets. I use my large paper cutter to cut these magnetic sheets.

I have labeled my notebooks according to categories such as: "Flowers", "Leaves & Trees", Dollies; Holidays etc.  I actually purchased a Red Notebook for the holiday dies.  The inserts come in either clear or green and I use the green inserts for the Holiday Notebook.

I like this storage system because the notebooks lay flat for easy viewing and I can easily remove a single die or even an entire section.  By being able to easily see each die, it helps me come up with different ideas too.

Timeless Amour Collection by Heartfelt Creations

As promised I have another card I designed with the new Heartfelt Creations "Timeless Amour Collection".  I used a piece of the "Timeless Amour Collection Design Paper" (HCDP1 228) for the background.

                                                          

The gold embossed lace on the bottom of this card was stamped with the "Timeless Lace PreCut Set"  (HFC 3508).  Isn't that a gorgeous lace design; you can use all of it or even cut it apart if you want to use smaller sections.  

                                                             

The floral design at the top of the card was gold embossed with a stamp from the "Timeless Rosette PreCut Set" (HFC 3505).  The red roses were created with the Heartfelt Creations "Open Vintage Floret PreCut Set".  The petals were misted with water to shape them.  The leaves around the roses are from the Heartfelt Creations "Leaf Medley PreCut Set" and were die cut using shiny gold card stock.

Heartfelt Creations Timeless Amour Collection

Today is the release of the beautiful "Timeless  Amour Collection from Heartfelt Creations.  Typography of love, roses of delight and patterns of mesmerizing drama are included in the Timeless Amour Collection.  There are 5 PreCut Stamp Sets, a 12x12 Design Paper Collection, and a beautiful new exclusive Spellbinders die set designed for Heartfelt Creations.  This new Heartfelt Creations collection can be purchased from Joan's Gardens.

I have designed my first card with this collection using a piece of the Timeless Amour 12x12 Paper Collection (HCDP1 228) for the background.  This is a 5.5" x 6" card.  Two roses were created with Spellbinder dies and placed over a couple of the roses in the design paper, for dimension.

                                              

Here is a picture of the dies in the Timeless Amour die collection (HCD728).  The pretty die at the top in this picture was used on this card.  The sentiment is from the Timeless Rosette PreCut Set (HCPC 3505).  It was embossed using a Winter White embossing powder.

Just A Note

Here is a card I made in autumn colors last week and did not post.  I started this card by first die cutting the Poppy Stamps "Lorelai Leaf" die then used the Nellie Snellen "Rectangle Frame" for the background around it.  It was easy to see the die cut shape after placing it in the embossing folder to get it centered just where I wanted it.   A piece of bronze card stock was placed behind the opening to give it color.  Another "Lorelai Leaf" was die cut out of black card stock and the actual black die cut was placed in the opening of the die cut shape in the background piece. It is a very pretty effect.  Flower petals were die cut using the Marianne Design flowers from the LR0168 and LR0169 "Doily with Flower" dies.  One flower is smaller and fits well in the middle of the larger one.  I used Ranger's "Rusty Hinge" Distress Ink to color the ivory flower die cut.  Brown stamens were cut from the Cheery Lynn Build A Flower #2 embellishment dies.  On the tips of each stamen end, I added Bronze Stickles.  Under the edge of the flower I  attached a made I made with bronze cording.  Down the right side of the card I added a strip of the bronze card stock and lined each side with a very narrow strip of black card stock to match the center of the card.  The Sentiment is from the  JustRite "Always and Forever Medallion Labels" stamp set.

Joy Card and Tutorial

Today I wanted to show you some different ways to use the Memory Box "Ribbon Candy Border".  When you die cut this you end up with three pieces.

Here you can see the die on the left and three different colors of the border with the pieces separated.  You can use each piece alone or combine different colors for fun effects.  

This picture show how I have added the single ribbon strips to the main piece to come up with different color combinations.  Wouldn't that red and white one look great with a candy cane theme!   For my card I used the red frame and inserted the green strips for my border.

This is a 5.5"x6" card.  I used the new eBosser Delicate Dots embossing folder to create my background.  The "JOY" was die cut using the Memory Box "Bubble Joy" die.  It was centered and taped on the piece of red card stock then die cut in my eBosser.  The die cuts out all the little dots to form the word.  You can then add any color of card stock to the back for a combination of colors.  As you can see, I backed by sentiment with green.  One of the new Cheery Lynn "Snowflowers" was added to the corner.  

Between the sentiment and the Ribbon Candy Border I added the Poppy Stamps "Blooming Poinsettia".  I only used the two smallest sets of petals because I didn't need a large flower. Below the poinsettia I added two Memory Box "Crystal Snowflakes".  The Memory Box "Elegant Scrollwork" was added to the side of the flower.  For some glitz, I added Kaiser Craft clear rhinestones.

Christmas Candle

Have you ever sat down and started working on a card having no idea what you were really going to do?  That is what happened to me today.  I received some new products this weekend and the first thing I wanted to "play" with was the Tim Holtz "Tattered Poinsettia".  I love this die.  The poinsettia die  has three layers and a center.  I die it using a burgundy colored card stock.  Around the edges of the petals I sponged on some "Walnut Stain" Distress Ink.  This made the edges stand out more.  However, I wanted to add some "glitz" to them so I used the Ranger "Adirondack Metallic Acrylic Paint Dabber" in Gold to highlight each petal.  To give it an  "aged" look, I decided to wrinkle the petals.  I misted them with water then creased each petal down the center then kind of wrinkled each one.  They were dried with the heat gun before continuing.  Next I decided I needed some more glitz so I pressed each petal down on a "VersaMark" Dazzle" ink pad (which gives it a shimmer) then sprinkled on "Wow! Neutral Ultra Shimmer Embossing Glitter".  I love the look of the flower in real life.  All this work gave it a vintage look.

For the background, I used one of the new stamps Joan sent.  It is a Christmas background from Stampendous.  Look at all the wonderful sentiments on it.  It was stamped using VersaFine "Vintage Sepia" ink on the top portion of this 5.5" x 6" card.  To add color to the card, I sponged on Ranger's "Aged Mahogany Distress Ink" then used the Adirondack Gold Paint Dabber to add gold around the edges.  Since I was in the mood to try new things, I used the VersaMark Dazzle Pad to add ink over the "sentiment" background then clear embossed it.  I like the way it turned out.  

I used one of the new eBosser embossing folders for some texture along the bottom.  These folders are super great.  They are 8.5" x 11" so you can emboss an entire sheet of card stock and use as much as you need.  I only needed a small piece of this "Delicate Dots" embossed piece. 

Across the top of the embossed piece, I attached one of the Cheery Lynn "Expandable Tiny Borders".  Both the embossed piece and the border were sponged with the "Aged Mahogany" Distress Ink.

Behind the Tattered Poinsettia, I add one of the Marianne Design candles.  It was sponged with Aged Mahogany, highlighted with the Adirondack Gold paint then pressed into the Versamark Dazzle Ink pad and sprinkled with the Wow embossing glitter.  The same technique was used on the Cheery Lynn Holly Flourish and Holly leaves.

Season's Greetings

Today I created a card using the traditional Christmas colors.  I have a drawer that has extra pieces I have die cut and today decided to use some of them up.  The ivory frame is the largest of the new Spellbinders "Romantic Rectangles".  I placed it in the Sizzix "Winter Botanicals" embossing folder.  There is an embossed poinsettia below the red poinsettia I added.  That poinsettia was created with the Poppy Stamps "Blooming Poinsettia" dies. 

The bird cage is from the Tim Holtz "Caged Bird" die.  I use Ranger's grunge paper to die cut it and it was distressed with the Sizzix "Woodgrain" embossing folder, then colored with Distress Stains.  To give it a metal look, it was covered with VersaMark Ink and clear embossed.  

The holly leaves below the cage were die cut using the Cheery Lynn "Holly Leaves" strip.  The branches are the Cheery Lynn "Wreath Strip" branches.  For the small poinsettias, I used the Spellbinders flowers from the "Moroccan Accents" die set.  Small gold seed beads were added to all the poinsettias.  The small bird is from the Impression Obsession (C8589) bird stamp set.  To give the scene a more winter like look, I added some "Twinklets Diamond Dust".  The sentiment is from an old Penny Black stamp set.

It was fun to use up some of my un-used die cuts.  Do you have a bunch you could create a card with?  I received a package from Joan's Gardens yesterday so I have some new things to work with this weekend.   Some of the products are the new embossing folders for the eBosser.  I am excited to create some new things this these larger embossing folders because they will emboss an 8.5" x 11" sheet of card stock.  I almost always create cards that are larger than A-2 size so I am excited to have embossing folders that will emboss the entire front of my cards without having to run them through twice.

Joan's Gardens Weekly Challenge

It is time for a new challenge at Joan's Gardens.  Today we have a fun challenge for you using recycled material.  I love it when I figure out something "new" that I haven't seen anywhere else.  I had a few brown grocery bags and wondered what it would look like to use them on my card.  I love the way this turned out.  This is a 5"x7" card.    I used the Poppy stamps "Blooming Poinsettia" to die cut the flower.  I wanted to give it a special look so I used the Rangers "Tarnished Brass" Metallic Distress Stain on the petals.  The stains have a sponge top and are so easy just to brush over whatever you want to "stain".  I used my heat gun to dry the stain and it caused the petals to kind of curl up.  To bring out the "veins" in the petals, I used the Ranger "Perfect Medium Bullet" to draw lines on all the petals then Gold embossed with Rangers Detail Gold Embossing Powder.   This photo does not do justice to the beauty of the flower.  I hope you will give this a try.  I want to tell you that there are two different sizes of the "Perfect Medium" markers - one is a brush to do wide areas and there is a bullet that has a harder tip for detail writing or drawing.  I use these markers all the time for small areas.

I love the beautiful Memory Box "LaRue Ornament" and thought it would be beautiful die cut in shiny gold card stock and backed with Kraft card stock.  There are two dies that work together for this ornament.  The detail ornament is the "LaRue Ornament" (98377) and there is also a background ornament that matches the shape called "Drop Ornament" (98378).  With the Drop Ornament you die cut a backing for the LaRue Ornament and it also has the metal cap to complete the look.  These two dies make it so easy to complete any color combination ornaments.

Behind the poinsettia I used the beautiful Memory Box "Riviera Corner".  This die cut was intended to be used on a corner but I love the way it looks as flourish under the poinsettia.  

For the background on my card, I used another piece of brown paper bag and embossed it with the Sizzix "Holly Swirls" embossing folder.  I thought about adding the Tarnished Brass Distress Stain over it but wanted the poinsettia to stand out so didn't do that but I know that would have been beautiful.  The sentiment is the Cheery Lynn "Celebrate" die.  It was die cut using shiny gold card stock.  To add another bit of "glimmer" to this card, I used the Martha Stewart "Aspen Snowflake" border punch to get some gold snowflakes.   One of the snowflakes was added to the center of the poinsettia.

Goose Girl

It snowed all day yesterday and is still snowing lightly today.  I love to watch the falling snow, but I sure hate to get out and drive in it. They are predicting that it might turn to rain this afternoon -- wonder what that will do to the streets tomorrow morning!  

This is a card created with another one of those cute Paintbox Poppets stamps.  This one is called "Goose Girl".  She was stamped with Ranger Black Archival Ink and colored with colored pencils and a Ranger water brush.  The colors are not showing up well in this photo. The design was die cut using the largest of the Spellbinders "Labels Seventeen" dies.  The edges were sponged using the Ranger Blending Tool and Tea Dye Distress Ink.  To add a little dimension, I added one of the Marianne Design trees, that was also sponged with Tea Dye ink, on the right side.  The sentiment is from the JustRite "Large Fancy Holiday Sentiments" stamp set.  The background was embossed with the "Swiss Dots" embossing folder and a little "Polar White" Flower Soft added at the bottom of the card.

Christmas Poinsettias in White

I love the look of off white and Kraft card stock together.  Today I created a card using the Poppy Stamps "Blooming Poinsettia" which is die cut using an off white pearlized paper.  The card base is 5.5" x 6" and is kraft card stock.  In the corners I used is from the Cheery Lynn Corners, "Lace Corner Deco D" set.  I love the delicate design in this corner.  I think adding a lot of fillers behind flowers really adds to the overall look so I added the pretty Memory Box "Elegant Scrollwork", the Marianne Design "Holly Branches" and the Cheery Lynn "Wreath Strip" pieces.  To add more "sparkle" I added some Twinklets Diamond Dust. 

You can't see all of the pretty design in the  Memory Box "Elegant Scrollwork" so I took a picture of it so you could see both ends.

Today I decided to take a break from doing Christmas cards.  I love butterflies so decided to create a card I could use later for either a birthday or a thank you.  I can never have too many butterfly stamps and dies.  These are the new Spellbinder "Les Pepillions" dies.  You get four butterflies in this set and they can all be used separately, but they also can be layered as I did here.  

In this picture you can see the embossed butterflies that are below the intricate ones.  When you die cut them, you should run back through with the embossing pad so all the embossed detail comes out.  Before removing them from the die, I sponged on some blue Distress Ink, then used the Ranger "Emboss It Dabber" to add "clear" embossing ink.  The butterflies were removed from the dies then sprinkled with "Wow Embossing Glitter".  I love how that colors shows through the die cut butterfly that is layered on top.  The butterflies were layered onto the pretty Spellbinders "Picot Edge Circles".

The background on this card was embossed with one of the Marianne Design "Cut and Emboss" designs.  I attached a piece of blue card stock behind the die cut openings in the embossed piece.   In the upper corners I added a Cheery Lynn corner.  The sentiment is from the Penny Black "Gratitude" sentiment stamp set.  I love the lacy look of this card so decided to die cut the Joy! card stand so I can  send this stand with the card.

Here is a picture showing the back of this card stand.  I use 100# card stock when I die cut these stands.  They are not a sturdy as a metal or wood stand would be, but they do hold the cards well.  My card is 5.5" x 6".  

I thought I would give you a little tip.  I like to put the card stand on the ScorPal and deepen that center line before trying to fold it in half.  It is much easier to fold if you have a good score line.

To add a pretty look to the inside of the card I added the beautiful Memory Box "Riviera Corner. I really like how easy it is to add a die cut to make the inside as pretty as the outside.  I did not add a sentiment inside yet,  because I'm not sure if I'll make this a birthday or thank you card.

Ho Ho Ho

Today I was trying to think of something I could create and do a little tutorial.  I decided to play with one of the alphabet die sets that I have.  I used the Die-namics "By the Letters" to create my "Ho, Ho, Ho".  I used a piece of polka dot paper to die cut the "h" from this set and added a Cheery Lynn "Snowflower" for the "O" to form the Ho,   For my background I used the Nellie Snellen "Sleigh" embossing folder.  I wanted to add a tree line below the sleigh ride so I cut the embossed piece in half.  

This picture shows how I cut along the embossed "snow bank" line to cut the panel apart.  I used the Poppy Stamps "Pine Tree Border" for the tree line.  It was die cut and then I used scissors to cut a very narrow line along the bottom of the trees so I could glue it to the lower panel.

This picture shows how I glued the tree border behind the snow bank on the lower panel.  The card I created is a 5.5" x 6".  First the top panel was attached to the card base then the lower panel, so the trees would go over the top piece.  The Ho Ho Ho was then attached. An additional snowflake was added on the top left corner.  I used some Tim Holtz "Distress Stickles Dry Glitter" on the snowflakes and along the line below the trees.    A dark green piece was added to the back of the card to create a border. 

It is fun to try and come up with something a little different for your cards.  I hope this gives you some ideas for using your embossing folders and die cuts.

Well I think winter has arrived.  We woke up to six inches of snow and it is still snowing hard!  It is beautiful but we planned to drive down to Spokane and looks like the highways are very bad.  Maybe I will have to stay home and do more creating!

I love creating cards with all those new Nellie Snellen embossing folders.  This one is the "Holly" folder.  Isn't it beautiful.  I decided to give the embossing some color so used "Peeled Paint" Distress Ink Reinkers with the Ranger Water Brush to color the holly leaves and "Worn Lipstick" Distress Ink on the berries.  Red Stickles was added over the berries once the card was finished.  To color the ribbons down the side, I used the Perfect Medium Brush to add ink over the embossed ribbon then added Rangers Detail Silver embossing powder and heat set.

The beautiful ornament is the Memory Box "Snowflake Ornament".  It was die cut using shiny silver card stock.  I glued it to a piece of pearlized red card stock with "Glue N Seal" and cut around the edges.  It was attached with dimensional tape.  A silver cord was used to make a bow and placed at the top of the ornament.  The beautiful sentiment is from the JustRite "Large Fancy Holiday Sentiments" stamp set.  I love the font on all the sentiments in this set. It was also silver embossed.

Joan's Gardens Weekly Challenge

It is time for another fun challenge at Joan's Gardens.  This week it is a color challenge -red, white and green.  Please go over to Joan's Gardens to see Joan's card and read all the details about the challenge.

For my card I used one of the new Nellie Snellen embossing folders.  The cute image is the Paintbox Poppets "Christmas Miss" stamp.  She was colored with Distress markers.  The corner is the Cheery Lynn "Holly Corner".

For the inside of the card I stamped the Impression Obsession "Merry Christmas".  Along the edge I added a piece of the new Fabric Tape "Red Ribbon II" you can order from Joan's Gardens.  There are three beautiful ribbons in this box of sticky back fabric tape.   

In this picture I added one of the new borders from the Cheery Lynn "Expandable Tiny Borders" die plate.  It was placed over the ribbon for a different look.  There are a lot of cute borders on this plate.  By adding the border, it gave this ribbon a different effect, which I like.  I'm sure you will have fun with all the different tiny borders on this die.

Lavender Poinsettia

Today I had a lot of fun stamping with a friend.  My neighbor Pat came over this morning to learn how to make another card.   I asked her what she wanted to learn and she looked over some of my cards and decided to create a card with a poinsettia and wanted to learn how to add the metallic stain to it.  Here is the card she wanted to use as the inspiration for this card.  I will tell you below the products/colors I used on my card.

I let Pat choose the products to use on her card.  This is her beautiful card.  She choose to use the Swiss Dots embossing folder for the background on the 5.5" x 6" card.  The doilies behind the poinsettia are the Cheery Lynn "Scandinavian Hearts" and the gorgeous Marianne Design (LR0242) doily.  The Marianne Design doily was attached over the Scandinavian Hearts doily with dimensional tape. 

The Memory Box "Poinsettia Bloom" was white embossed three times and we followed  the same steps as I described in my previous post.  She used "Fired Brick" Distress Ink on the flower and "Crushed Olive and Pealed Paint" Distress inks on the leaves.  Over the top of both the flower petals and the leaves,  she brushed on the Ranger Distress "Antique Bronze" metallic stain.  After coloring the poinsettia, she decided on the color of card stock to use behind it.  Her choice of colors turned out beautiful, didn't they.  I was really proud of the work she did.  To create my poinsettia I used "Dusty Concord" Distress Ink and covered it with "Brushed Pewter" metallic stain.  I used the same inks as Pat on the leaves.

We felt like her card is so beautiful that whoever ends up receiving it would want to display it.  We die cut the beautiful Joy! "Card Stand".  I wanted to show you the beautiful design in this stand.  There are three different stands you can order from Joan's Gardens.

Pat is a very "crafty" person but has not made cards in the past.  I love to have her come over so I can teach her some of the techniques I know.
