Flower Tutorial

Joan's Gardens is now carrying dies from My Favorite Things (MFT) and I have used some of them today.  I used the "Botanical Beauty" dies for the flower.  You get three size flowers and three sizes of stamens in this package.  Today I wanted to show you a way to create a very dimensional flower using all three sizes of the flower.   They were die cut using white card stock then were colored using the Tim Holtz Blending Tool and Spiced Marmalade Distress Ink.  To create something very different, I decided to cut down each petal four or five times to kind of "fringe" them.  I did this on two of the smallest flowers.

All three flower sizes were die cut and sponged and shaped.

Here you can see how the smallest flowers were "fringed", then I used the tools from the "Flower Tool Kit" to "cup" both of them.

In the center of one of these fringed flowers, I used a chop stick to add a "blog" of "Yes" Glue.  This is a very thick glue and easy to shape things around it.  All the fringed petals were pressed into the "Yes" glue to form a cone.  I tried to be sure all the fringed pieces were sticking together on the first flower.  Next I put that   flower in the middle of the other fringed flower only putting glue on the bottom of the shaped flower and sticking them together.  I pressed the second flower up against the closed flower trying to attach most of the fringes, but not necessarily all of them.

Two of the middle size flowers were cut between petals down toward the center then shaped with the stylus.  They were stacked, alternating petals, then pressed down into the shaping mat.

Here is what the center and the two middle layers look like when glued together.  I then added just one of the large flowers on the bottom.

You can see the dimension of the completed  flower in this photo.  The leaves used with the flower is the Cheery Lynn "Judy's Blooms" leaves (C184).  Can you guess what doily I used under the flower?   I like to get as much use out of my dies and I can, and I have used the Cheery Lynn "Christmas Ball Decoration" (DL150) which also comes with an Angel Wing.  I don't think it  looks like it needs to be used just for Christmas.  You could even change it by snipping off the little circles on the outside edge.  I don't know if you have been to Joan's Gardens to see the Cheery Lynn dies Joan has on sale for 40% off, but this is one of those dies.  What a savings because these dies normally don't come on sale.  There are also some other dies in this sale you might want to get while they are on sale.

Along the bottom of this card I used the MFT "Jumbo Ric Rac".  It is a really nice size and will really be perfect to use with Easter cards.  I experimented and found out that after you die cut it, you can place the die back on the ric rac and cut it different widths.  There is also a Texture Plate called "Grosgrain Texture Board" that make the Ric Rac look real.  I was hoping that texture would show up in the photo but it doesn't.  This Ric Rac was die cut using white card stock and also sponged with the "Spiced Marmalade" Distress Ink.    By adding color it helped to bring out that embossed grosgrain texture.  I added a strip of the design paper across the center of the ric rac and added some rhinestones.

The sentiment is from the JustRite "Kindness" stamp set.  There are 10 stamps in this set.  To complete the card I added additoinal Kaiser Craft Rhinestones

As you know, you can purchase all the products I use from Joan's Gardens
