Tri Fold Card

 I apologize for being so late in posting this fun card.  I created it this morning, but had an early appointment and didn't have time to post it and had to be gone most of the day.   Joan, at Joan's Gardens, has posted some of these cute stamp sets from Art Impressions, that create a tri-fold card.  There is not much to tell you about the card because you stamp the designs, following the very easy and clear instructions that come with the stamps.  I stamped on watercolor paper and painted with Distress Inks.

 You stamp the main image, which was the cabin in this set, on what will be the inside of the card.  Next you turn the card over and stamp the other two images on the side panels.  The instructions give you measurements on how far to stamp down.  I really thought this was going to be hard, but it was so easy.  Next you color your design then cut out the portion above the design, from each side.
 

 I used the "Lakehouse" stamp set.  There is a verse in this set that I stamped on the inside.  I used the Martha Stewart "Double Loops" punch set to create a frame, but you don't need to do that.  You will have an A2 size card if you use it as directed. 

There are some really cute animal/bird sets you can use to further embellish these cards.  I didn't have these sets, but wouldn't some of the little "critters" below look really cute on this card.  Be sure to go over to Joan's Gardens and see all the different Art Impressions  "Try'folds" sets you can be creative with.

Floral Card

Today I wanted to show you a card that I used the Liquitex modeling  paste and one of "The Crafters Workshop" stencils to create the background.   I have been using this technique on frames but it is a wonderful look on cards too.  I used glossy card stock and shaded the background with Distress Ink before applying the modeling paste.  It is an easy technique.  Place, or tape the stencil, over the card stock and spread the modeling paste over the stencil, making sure all the design is covered.  On this card I scrapped the paste even with the top of the stencil, but you can leave it uneven, if you want.  I used the Blending Tool and sponged on more Distress Ink over the dried paste.

I have a very sweet blogging friend, Rita, who sent me a box of "goodies" I have been anxious to use.  I used the purple flowers which are placed above the large flower, from her, and also one of the gorgeous ribbons she sent.  She has a fabulous blog I'm sure you will want to visit.  Thank you Rita for the fun things you sent.

The pretty corner on this card was die cut using the Heartfelt Creations "Decorative Blossom Corner".   I pulled the large purple flower from a stash of flowers I previously made.  The little white roses were created with the MFT Royal Rolled Rose.  The pretty flourish is the Heartfelt Creations "Bella Rose" die.   There are some Cheery Lynn "Wreath Strip" pieces tucked in this arrangement.  Before I took the second, close up picture, I added a few of the small flowers from the Cheery Lynn BAF#3 Embellishments" die.

Special Moments with You

Today I created a masculine card using  the new Heartfelt Creations "Sweet Serenity" collection.  One of my favorite things to do is find a covered bridge when we go out for a ride in the countryside.  We always have to get out and take a lot of pictures.  This new collection from Heartfelt Creations has four beautiful scenic stamps I am sure you will enjoy working with.

For this card I used an older piece of Heartfelt Creations design paper for the background.  To distress it, I used the Zutter, Distrezz-it-All to rough up the edges of the paper.  To create the stitches around the edge of it, I used the Tim Holtz "Idea-ology" ruler which has little holes along one edge, and punched every other hole.  Next I used several Distress Inks to color the edges of the design paper, then used the Ranger "Perfect Medium" bullet marker to draw lines for the stitching.  Ranger bronze embossing powder was then sprinkled over the edge of each side.  Because I had used Distress Ink to shade the edges of the paper, some of the embossing powder stuck around the edges, which gave it a really cool look - like aging.  The Distress Inks stay "wet" for a while so if you don't want that added embossing, you must let it dry before creating the stitches and embossing them.

The stamped image is from the "Natural Beauty PreCut Set".  It was colored using Derwent Inktense pencils and Faber Castell Pastel Pencils.  The frame was created using the two largest Spellbinders "Labels Twenty" dies.  I just taped the smaller one down inside the larger die and ran it through the eBosser.   It was run back through with the embossing pad to get the embossing around the frame.  Tea Dye and Walnut Stain Distress Inks were sponged on it prior to placing it over the stamped design.  The larger die was used to cut out the stamped image, then it was glued to the back of the frame.  The sentiment is from the Heartfelt Creations "Sweet Serenity" design paper pad.

Violets and Leaf Tutorial

The new  Graphic 45 "Secret Garden" 8x8" paper pad has such gorgeous papers. You know how much I like purple so I really wanted to create something with the lavender paper and one of the little panels on one of these sheets.  The Graphic 45 paper was added to the background, then the Spellbinders A2- Filigree Delight" frame was added for the background to this arrangement. (The color of card stock is not coming out the true color in this photo - it is more lavender.) Violets were created using  Punch Bunch petals.  There is a Marianne Design "Garden Branch" and a Memory Box "Fresh Foliage"  leafy die cut behind the the violets.    

I received the following email:

 "I love the Memory Box dies well, but I notice on your flowers and leaves you always have them "come to life" with a tool I imagine, but what do you use? I am always finding myself tearing and I know I don't have the right tools, but I look and look and can't find what I think will work. Can you help me?"

I used the Memory Box Fresh Foliage Leaf die she was asking about and thought I would answer explaining here how I made the leaves come to life.  As most of you know, I always use the tools available from Joan's Gardens to shape all my flowers.  Here is a picture:

Flower Tool Kit

To shape the leaves, I use the self-closing tweezers, shown in the top left of this kit.  I place the tweezers on the tip of each leaf, right in the middle, and pinch the edges up to give it a dimensional look.  I think by doing this it creates a more realistic looking leaf.  On the little tiny leaves, I place the tweezers on one side and pinch up the other side.

Another Frame

I have a very busy day and don't have time to create something new,  so I am going to post a gift I made for one of the people who is helping me, so much, to recover from injuries from our car accident. She has spent so much time helping me feel better and even calls me at home to make sure I am doing ok.   This was just a small token of my appreciation.

I used a wooden frame and some stencils to create the background with "Modeling Paste".   Distress Inks were used to add color to the stenciled designs.  I bet you know where the large Iris is from.  I used the gorgeous Heartfelt Creations "Dutch Iris Oval" and "Dutch Iris Medley" Precut sets.  The pieces were black embossed and colored with colored pencils and OMS.  All the layers were put together with dimensional glue dots.  A Memory Box Butterfly and Cheery Lynn grass border were added to complete this frame.

Here is the information about my card.

This card was designed using another corner of the "Sweet Serenity" design paper.  The stamp set I used for this card is the "Feathered Friends" Precut set.  I LOVE the little "fat" bird in this set.  I stamped flowers from the "Botanical Floral 2" stamp set and colored them to match the design paper. I love having the matching design paper for these stamps because you get so many great coloring ideas! I also stamped the floral piece in the "Feathered Friends" stamp set, colored it to match the flowers in the design paper, and cut it out with scissors so it could be layered over the flowers in the design.  Both the bird and the extra flowers were attached with dimensional tape.  For extra "interest" I added the Marianne Design Lantern down behind the flowers.  I had to use a craft knife and cut around the top of the flowers  in the design paper,  then tucked in the lantern.

 This picture gives you a better view of this cute little bird and shows the dimension of the card by cutting and layering pieces. Gosh, I really love this new Sweet Serenity Collection!

Heartfelt Creations Sweet Serenity Collection

The new Heartfelt Creations "Sweet Serenity Collection" is being released today.  There are so many beautiful stamps and design paper it is hard to stop working with them.   There is also a gorgeous background stamp with a matching die that cuts out the intricate design.  Today I am posting three of the cards I have designed with this collection.  I don't want to make this post really long, so I will post the other cards at a later time and give you details about them.   

For my first card I used a piece of the gorgeous "Sweet Serenity Collection" design paper.  This pad of double sided design paper is 12" x 12".  I have used one corner of one of the sheets for this card.  The flowers in the design paper match the Heartfelt Creations "Botanical Floral" stamps and matching dies.  I used these stamps and dies to create dimensional flowers over the design paper, plus one on the bunny.   The bunny is from the "Butterfly and Bunny PreCut Set" (HCPC 3524).  It was stamped on white card stock then colored with Distress Inks, cut out and attached to the card with dimensional tape.  The sentiment is from this same stamp set.  Wouldn't this card cheer up anyone!

Enjoy Life

I'm so anxious to see the birds arrive, which will be a sure sign Spring is on the way.   I decided to use the cute new die from Impression Obsession with the little birds on a tree branch.  The number of this die is 058-N.   To frame the scene, I used two new sets of Spellbinders dies.  The large one in the back is the "5x7 Enchanted Labels 28" die.  On top of it I layered the A2-Filigree Delight die.  In this set you also get the oval insert and I sponged that with Distress Inks.  The back of the Filigree Delight die was lined with a Navy blue card stock to match the bottom mat on the card.  I die cut two of the corners from the Filigree Delight set and glued them to the sides of the Filigree frame.  This frame was attached with dimensional tape.  The oval was also attached with dimensional tape.  The little sentiment is from the Penny Black "Enjoy Life" clear stamp set.

To add a little more "Spring" to the card, I decided to add a yellow rose that was created with the Spellbinders "Spiral Blossom One" die.  It was die cut using yellow card stock and sponged lightly with orange Distress Ink.  The leaves and baby's breath are from Cheery Lynn.

Blooming Violets

Hope you are all having a great weekend.  We are starting to see a little bit of sunshine.  The snow is starting to melt and we can actually see a small portion of our grass!!

Today I designed a card using the Memory Box "Blooming Violet" dies.  This is such a fun die to work with.  I die cut it all out of white card stock then colored the pieces with Copic Markers. Yellow Stickles was added to the center of the flowers. I added the MFT "Fresh Cut Grass die cut along the bottom of the flowers. The purple background was embossed with the eBosser "Dainty Dots" embossing folder.  The white frames are Spellbinders "Locking Loops" frames.  The sentiment is from some stickers from Webster's Pages Mini Messages called "Best Friends Words".   The small butterflies are from the Memory Box"Butterfly Delights" die.  This die cuts 15 tiny butterflies.

Joan's Gardens Weekly Challenge

It is time for a new challenge over at Joan's Gardens.  We want you to create a card with a "Garden Theme".   Be sure to add some flowers.

I created my card using the Heartfelt Creations "Vintage Watering Can PreCut" stamp set.  The flowers by the sentiment were created with the Heartfelt Creations "Vintage Floret" dies.   The Heartfelt Creations sentiment was stamped in the Marianne Design "LR0117" Frame. 

I wanted to show you a closeup of the flowers.  I did a new technique I thought have a fun result.   I added white "Liquid Applique" to all the little flowers around the watering can to make them dimensional, and on the larger flower petals. It was heat set using the heat gun, then I sponged on  "Pearlescent" Chalks to add some color. I love the texture.

Graphic 45 Box with Drawers

I am excited to finally be able to post this project.  My  friend Pat and I started working on creating a box, with drawers, out of a cigar box, about three weeks ago.  The actual box did not take long to decorate, but what took so long was figuring exact measurements to create six little boxes, for drawers inside the box. I'm not going to give you the measurements because cigar boxes comes in many different sizes and the drawers need to be created to fit perfect inside your particular box.    Pat's box is decorated totally different - all in a music theme.  She hasn't quite finished it, so I did not take a picture yet.

I love Graphic 45 design paper so decided to use papers from the "A Ladies Diary" Collection.  This pad has the most gorgeous "ladies" and I love the flowers on many of the pages.  To create dimensional flowers very similar to the ones in the design paper, I used the new Memory Box "Fabulous Phlox" dies.  They were die cut using white card stock and sponged with "Tattered Rose" Distress Ink.   Don't you think this die created a perfect match to those in the design paper!

   This is a closeup of the front.  Hopefully you can see how close the flowers look to those in the design paper.  In this picture you can also see how I added tiny Kaiser Craft pearls to the necklace on the beautiful lady.   

Here you can see the drawers inside.  I created six little "Match Boxes" that fit tightly inside.

Build A Flower Magnolia Tutorial

As I promised yesterday, I have another tutorial for you using the Cheery Lynn "Build A Flower #3" dies.   This is a magnolia I created using the largest "Pear" shaped petal for the flower and the  largest "Sun" shape from the Build A Flower #2 Embellishments" die.   The flower petals were die cut using white card stock then light gray ink was sponged on the edges of each petal and down in the center (pointed end).  The petals were shaped with the tools from the Flower Tool Kit on the black shaping mat.  Two rows were made using the "Base" pieces from the BAF #1 Embellishment dies then layered.  For the center of the flower, I die cut a bunch of the largest "Sun" shape and cupped each one with the largest stylus; there are probably 8 to 10 suns.  Glue (Crafter's Pick) was spread on the top of each sun and they were layered and cupped up into a cone shape.  You need to add glue to the whole top of each one so they will stick together.   On the very bottom row, I used a maroon marker to add some color to the tips of each point on the "sun" and glued it around the bottom.  The leaves are from an older Heartfelt Creations stamp set.

To create a card for this pretty flower, I used the eBosser "Dainty Dots" embossing folder for the background.   My favorite embossing/die cutting machine is the "eBosser" and the embossing folders for this machine come in 8 1/2" x 11" size.  I cut the sheet down to fit my card.  A piece of gray card stock was added to the top and the new Spellbinders "Flourish Trim" was attached. I use "Glue N Seal" to glue down intricate dies like this.   The pretty die cut behind the magnolia is from the Heartfelt Creations "Timeless Amour" die set.   Along the bottom I added the Cheery Lynn "Anastasia Border".  

I hope these tutorials help you.  It is so rewarding to take card stock and create such realistic flowers. I hope you will give it a try.

Build A Flower #3 Card & Tutorial

This weekend I have been working on creating flowers with the Cheery Lynn (BAF) Build A Flower #3 dies.  This picture shows all the different flowers that I created.   

Here are some of the flowers you can create with petals from this die:  lily, magnolia, rose, pine cones, gardenia, anemone, violet, tulip, camellia, dogwood, zinnia, aster, tulip, marigold, cosmos, and bachelor button.  You probably can think of even more varieties.  You can combine some of these petals with petals from BAF#1 and #2 for even more varieties of flowers. Sometimes just using different stamens from the three different BAF Embellishments will produce different types of flowers. I like to look at different flowers in books or on the Internet to get ideas of which petals and embellishments to use.  I have completed many tutorials on ways to complete a lot of these flowers (look under tutorials in my side bar).  You can also get great instructions by purchasing "The Paper Bouquet Book" by Susan Tierney-Cockburn.  And as I have always stated, I feel it is a must to have the proper tools for shaping/creating flowers; I always use the "Flower Tool Kit, the "black embossing pad".  The glue I use is "Crafter's Pick".

The background design paper is from the Kaiser Craft "The Lake House" paper pad.  The white frame is one of the Spellbinders "Romantic Rectangles". The piece in the center of this frame was stamped with the JustRite "Lattice Background" stamp.   The sentiment from the JustRite "Faith" stamp set was stamped in the center of the Spellbinders Parisian Accents" die cut.  It was sponged with Distress Ink prior to taking it out of the die.  Green Kaiser Craft Pearls were added to complete the card.

This is a close up of the Star Gazer Lily.  I die cut six of the lily petals and colored them with "Gelatos" which are pigment sticks.  This pigment glides on creamy, vibrant color, and blends beautifully with or without water.  I used a marker to add the dots.  Small dots of glue was added near the center of the petals and "Bright Pink" Flower Soft was added.  When you look closely at the petals on the Star Gazer, you can see little "fuzzies" and the Flower Soft worked great for that added detail. I used the BAF #1 embellishments for the stamen.  A marker was used to add a darker color to the tips of each "leg" of this piece.  A small dot of glue was added to both the front and back of the tip then it was dipped in "Ultra Fine Toffee" Flower Soft.  You must use the "ultra fine" Flower soft to get the right texture.  Under the stamen I added the five point base from the BAF #2 Embellishments.  The lily leaves are also in the BAF#2 Embellishment dies. 

I hope this post gives you a lot of ideas for using the Cheery Lynn Build A Flower dies.
