Daisy

Today I was putting away some of the dies I have been using this week and noticed the Memory Box "Tilth Floral" die and thought I could make a pretty flower using the "discards" from it.  I always like to show you additional things you can do with your dies so they get a lot of use.  

This is the Memory Box "Tilth Floral" die, the die cut from it, and on the far right is one of the pieces from the diecut.  Doesn't that look like a daisy petal!  I sponged some of the ends of these pieces with Distress Ink "Squeezed Lemonade" then lightly sponged on a little "Dried Marigold" Distress Ink for shading.  I then used the largest flower base from the Cheery Lynn "Build A Flower #1" to glue on the petals.  I cut off 3 of the points because I only wanted a "half" flower.  The petals were glued to the other 5 points then 4 more petals were glued on in between the first layer.  To create the center of the flowe,r I used the smallest die from the Spellbinders "Big Scalloped Ovals Sm" dies.  It was cut in half using a pair of "Deckle" edge scissors.  I didn't want that bottom edge perfectly straight so that is why I used these scissors.

This is a 5.5" x 6" card.  I used the Penny Black "Blush" (daisy) stamp for the stem and leaves.  Two shades of green Distress Markers were used to color right on the rubber then it was lightly misted with water before stamping on the card stock.  I didn't want just a plain background so I embossed this piece with the "Swiss Dots" embossing folder.  I placed it in the folder so that the dots would emboss the full length (which would be sideways on this card), then placed the folder back on the unembossed area and ran it through the machine again.  This way I had complete coverage.  

To ground the flower, I used three layers of the MFT "Fresh Cut Grass" border, alternating the blades of grass.  The little butterfly was die cut using the new Heartfelt Creations "Butterfly" die.  It was sponged prior to taking it out of the die. In the center of the butterfly, I used one of the Memory Box Butterfly "bodies"; the bottom portion of that body was cut off so the size fit my small butterfly.   The "Dragonfly" was die cut using the Memory Box "Willow Dragonfly".  The pretty corners are the Cherry Lynn "Corner".  I think this is such a pretty corner.  To finish the card, I added some diamond "Stickles" to the butterfly, dragonfly, and the flower.  Antique Photo Stickles was added to the center of the flower.

Violets

Don't you love violets!  They are so little and cute.  JustRite has a new stamp set called "Violette Vintage Labels" that has two beautiful stamps with violets plus a lot of sentiments.  

For the background, I used one of the Marianne Design cut and emboss folders.  I used the design across the top of my card rather than vertical.  My card is 6" x 5.5" so it left a blank space at the bottom.  I used the Swiss Dots embossing folder to emboss a strip to fit that area.  The Cheery Lynn "Queen Anne's Lace" border was glued across the top of the added piece.  It is hard to see in the picture because it ended up under most of the flowers.  

The smaller JustRite "Violette Vintage Label" was stamped and colored with Distress Markers, then cut out and attached with dimensional dots.  As you know, I love to create flowers that match stamped images so I used my Punch Bunch Small "Ovoid" punch to create seven violets to ago along the bottom of the card.

A lot of the small "ovoid" petals were punch then I used a dark purple marker to draw lines up from the bottom of each petal.  I used the small end of the Distress Marker.  The petals were shaped with the tools from the Flower Tool Kit.  The base and smallest stamens are from the Cheery Lynn "Build A Flower #1" die set.  Since I wanted pretty small flowers, I made sure the tip of each petal was glued right to the very center of the base.  If you glue them out away from the very center, you will end up with a larger flower.  After all the petals were glued to the base, they were pressed down in the black shaping mat then the tiny stamen centers were added.  A dot of yellow Stickles was added to the very center.

I was trying to duplicate the foliage behind the flowers in the JustRite stamped image and used the Cheery Lynn "Flourish Leaf Strip" for the smaller light colored leaves, and used the Memory Box "Tender Leaves" for the larger dark leaves.  Two Cheery Lynn corners were added to the top of the card to finish it.

Hope you are having a great weekend.  Tomorrow we are having a cookout at our house with family and friends. I still have some flowers and herbs on my deck I need to get planted today, but I am waiting for it to warm up then will be spending my afternoon outdoors.  

For this card I started by using the Marianne (DS0912) embossing folder to emboss a 5.5" x 6" piece of white card stock.  I centered the embossing folder in the middle then used a Swiss  Dots embossing folder to add additional dots to the two sides so it would be completely covered with embossing.  A piece of purple card stock was attached to the back to show through the cut out portions of the embossed design.

A rose was created using the PunchBunch "Begonia" Petals punch (tutorial here). I used a daisy punch and small blossoms punch to create the additional flowers.  Behind the rose I added a couple of the Cheery Lynn "Tropical Flourishes", the new "Princess Tree" for additional leaves, and some of the new Marianne "Anja" leaves.  Small white Kaiser Craft pearls were added to the center of the purple flowers and stamens from the new Cheery Lynn "Build A Flower" were layered, shaped, and added to the center of each daisy.  A few Martha Stewart "Branches" were also added. Up in the right hand corner I added one of the Cheery Lynn Lace Corners.

Today I have a card designed using three different JustRite stamp sets.  The background was stamped with the "Lattice Background Stamp" (CL-03690); the border along the top is from the "Classic Lace Edges Two" (CR-03675) set; and the beautiful medallion is from the "Spring Rose Medallions" (CL-03685) set. It was die cut with the matching JustRite Medallions (Spellbinders) die (JB-10025) .   All three pieces were stamped with VersaFine Black Ink and clear embossed, then colored with my new Tim Holtz "Distress Markers".  The leafy Flourish is from Cheery Lynn, "Fanciful Flourish" (B117), and the little roses were die cut using one of the Spellbinders "Bitty Blossoms" (S5-086).  The medallion was attached with dimensional dots then the leafy flourish and roses were attached with glue.  Three black Dew Drops were added in the lower corner.

Happy Mother's Day Wreath

Today I have designed a card around a new Marianne Design wreath I just received from Joan's Gardens.  It is the "Ivy Circle" (CR1213) die.   The frame I used behind the wreath is the Marianne Design (CR1203) square.  This die also comes with a set of flower dies.  The birdhouse is from the Marianne (LR0206) set.  I created some different daisies today and I'll show you below how I did it.  

You can use any daisy die or punch.  Above you can see the punched daisy then on the bottom I just folded them in half, kind of off-setting the petals.  I used a brown "Dew Drop" for the center of each flower to represent the "cone".  Some of the flowers I added a small drop of glue between the folded layers, and other I didn't so they appeared to have a little more dimension.  It is always fun to try and create different types of flowers with your dies and punches.

I love the new Cheery Lynn "Reflections Boutique Mega Dies".  The one I used for this card is the "Lace Square Heart Mega Doily" (DL189).  There are a lot of different Mega Doily sets you can choose from.

These dies are so much fun because you can create so many different size doilies or cards.  There are six dies in this package. Each die is "half" of a square, rectangle or whatever shape you purchase so you can create many different sized doilies.  

This is a photo of the instruction sheet that comes with these dies to explain how to use them.  It is really easy to follow.  I was creating a square "doily" to place behind my card so I used the instruction along the top.  You tape the die down on one end and run it through the machine, then you pull the die off and line it up to cut the other half.  The pictures are very clear on the instruction sheet.   You don't need to punch around the page like you do with border punches.  You can also fold your card stock in half and create a card with a die cut border around three sides - this is pictured on the lower right side of the instructions.  Yes, they do cut through a folded piece of card stock.  I did have to use the "CuttleHug" and a small shim across the top edge to get it cut all the way through the first time I ran it through the machine. So quick and easy! The sentiment I used is from the new JustRite "Vintage Rose Medallions" stamp set.

Joan's Gardens Weekly Challenge

It is time for a new challenge at Joan's Gardens.  This week the theme is butterflies.  You should go over to Joan's Gardens to read all the requirement for the challenge and see what the prize is for this week.  Remember everyone who is chosen in the Weekly Challenges, will be eligible for the $100 Gift Certificate to Joan's Gardens at the end of the year.  Everyone has an equal chance  because the winner is chosen from a random drawing.  

I used a piece of design paper from the new BoBunny "Country Garden Collection" paper pad for my background.  Down in the right hand corner I added some of my vellum flowers over the flowers in the design paper.  Ranger's "Bisque" Liquid Pearls were added to the center of each flower.  I used the new Spellbinders "Lattice Motifs" (S5-107) and "Lattice Accents" (S5-106) for the doily and border.  I die cut them using white card stock then used the Tim Holtz Blending Tool to add "Antique Linen" Distress Ink.  The large butterfly was created with the Memory Box "Vivienne Butterfly" (98265).  The butterfly layered under it is the Memory Box "Darla Butterfly" (98264).  The Darla Butterfly was die cut using a piece of design paper from the BoBunny "Forever Fall Collection" paper pad.  The two small butterflies are from the Cheery Lynn "Mini Butterflies" (DL112) set.  The bottom of it is the Cheery Lynn "Mini Angel Wing" (DL112A).  I love working with the butterflies that have the "Angel Wings" because you can use so many different design papers or colors of card stock to add color to them.   I added a thin line of glue around the edge of the top butterfly and attached it to the Angel Wing.

Today I worked with a new Cheery Lynn Doily that I have not used before.  It is the "Oval Doily Stacker One" doily set (DL183).  There are three doilies in this set plus the plain oval which I used for the sentiment.  I really like that these are stacker doilies and you can use just one or even all three.  I used the two smallest for this card.  My card is 5.5" by 6".

The background design paper came from the Echo Park "Dots & Stripes" paper pad.  The flowers were created using the Cheery Lynn Stacker Flower #4 (SF4).  Two flowers were used for each single flower.   For the stamens I used the PunchBunch "Medium Sparkle" and cut down the center of each point to make it "frilly".  I used two in each flower.  The sentiment is from the new JustRite stamp set "Spring Rose Medallions".  It was stamped on the center oval from the doily set and sponged around the edges.  Three Kaiser Craft pearls were added under it.  The leaves were die cut using the Marianne Leaves (LR0156) die.  The green "filler" behind the flowers is the Memory Box "Leafy Branch" (98292).  To finish the card I added the new Spellbinders corners from the "Lattice Accents" die set (S5-106).

Baby Card

I have taken a few days off from creating, but today I am back with a pretty baby card.  I love the new Marianne die cut "Baby" die (LR0217).  I used the Marianne (DS0911) Cut and Emboss folder for my background and cut a pink scalloped Spellbinders Nestie to go in the round circle of the embossed design. I think this is such a beautiful embossing folder. This folder will go beautiful of any design, but I especially like it for a baby card because of the little "moon" shapes around the edges.  

Flowers were created using the Cheery Lynn "Miniature rose" (B152) and "Medium Rose" (B154).  Two Marianne "Forest Branch" (LR0150) were layered along the left side of the card. This is a 5.5" x 6" card so the embossed design did not cover the entire front.  The flowers were glued over the branch and Martha Stewart punched branches were tucked in around the flowers.  A few Kaiser Craft pearls were added to complete the card.

Joan's Gardens Weekly Challenge and Guest Designer Call

This week for the challenge at Joan's Gardens we are going to do something different.  We are planning to do a blog hop  May 15th and are looking for 6 Guest Designers to participate.  To select our guest designers, we are asking everyone to create a card or project that includes one or more flowers that you created with either punches or dies and submit it in this week's challenge at Joan's Gardens.  You can create any type of flower/s you wish.  There are no requirements for the rest of your card/project.   Joan and I will be selecting 6 cards we really like and ask those people if they would like to be a guest designer for our blog hop.  You are not required to participate.   A set of new dies will be furnished to each guest designer to work with for the blog hop. We really look forward to seeing your creative flowers. 

Now to tell you about my card.  I used the Cheery Lynn "Sweet Williams" (D137) die to create my flowers.  There are four layers to create each flower.  They were shaped with the tools from the Flower Tool Kit, then glued together.  The stamens were punched out with the PunchBunch "Sky Flake" punch.  There is one medium and one large Sky Flake in each flower.  The leaves were die cut using the Cheery Lynn "Tropical Leaves" (B119) die.    I created two "buds" with the "Sweet William" dies then used the "maple leaf" from the Cheery Lynn "Small Leaves #1" (D133) to wrap around it for the greenry around the bud.  The pretty doily behind the flowers is the new Cheery Lynn "Horizon Coved Rectangle Mega Doily" (DL193).  These are really fun dies to use.  There are six dies in this set.  You can create many different size doilies with the dies in this set.  I will do a tutorial on how to use these dies at a later date.  Along the bottom I attached a Cheery Lynn "Francesca" (B159) border. 

The doily behind the sentiment is die cut using the Memory Box "Winged Swirl" die.  The JustRite sentiment was stamped and cut out with a circle Nestie and attached with dimensional dots.  

Did you notice that the butterflies appear to be flying?  These are the three Cheery Lynn "Mini Butterflies" (DL112).  They have been attached to a piece of acetate to make them appear to be flying.  The design paper on the back is from the Cosmo Cricket "Joy Ride" mini deck.

Purple Butterfly

Today I have used a couple more new Memory Box dies.  The beautiful butterfly is the "Vivienne Butterfly" (98265) and "Darla Butterfly" (98264). The "Vivienne Butterfly" is layered on top of the "Darla" butterfly.  The new Memory Box "Twirling Vine Frame" (98299) was used to frame the butterfly.  Under the butterfly is the Cheery Lynn "Polynesian Sails" doily.  This doily comes with an oval doily and in the center is this pretty round doily.  The background was embossed with the "Swiss Dots" embossing folder.  The corners are from the Cheery Lynn "Lace Corner Deco C" (B163) Corner set.  The pretty little flowers were created with the PunchBunch "Small Blossom" punch.  In the center of each flower I added a lavender pearl by using the Ranger "Liquid Pearls".  It is so nice to have the Liquid Pearls when you want to add a lot of pearls.

Pink Tulips and Tutorial

Today I decided to use my PunchBunch "Ovoid" punch to create some different type tulips. The design paper I used is from the Pink Paislee "Spring Jubilee" paper pack.  The butterfly is part of the design paper.  The doily behind the tulips is the Cheery Lynn "Polynesian Sails Oval" (DL153).  On top of that I used the new Spellbinders "Labels 25".  A white silk bow was added to complete this card.  

 For each tulip I used three punched "Ovoid" petals.

I sponged around the edges with a darker pink ink then used the large white flower shaping tool, from the Flower Tool Kit, to shape each petal.  Two of the petals were glued together as shown above. The picture shows the difference in just punched petals and those that you shape.

A large foam glue dot was added behind the center petal to give the tulip a lot of shape.  Center that petal in between the other two petals.

I wanted my tulip to be well "rounded" so I used the round nosed pliers to curl the edges under.  Both pieces of these pliers are round so you don't get any creases when rolling the petals.  I use these pliers to create almost all my flowers. 

For the stems/leaves, I used the Heartfelt Creations "Simple Fillers Stems PreCut set" (HCPC3319). I love this stamp set because you can use it for the stems for most your flowers. I used both the stems with leaves and the stem without leaves.  The stamped image was then die cut using the  Spellbinders "Label 25" die.  You notice part of the design has been cut off.  That will be "fixed" in the next photo.   I embossed this piece using the "Swiss Dots" embossing Folder.

I stamped the two stems with leaves and cut them out, as shown above, so I could shape the leaves and layer them over the leaves stamped in the "Label 25" die cut.  

The tulips were attached to the top of the stamped stems using another large foam glue dot.  The leaves were glued over the stamped leaves by just adding a dot of glue to the tips and bottom so they would remain dimensional.

Yellow Flower Tutorial and a Give Away

 Today I have created some new flowers using some of the Punch Bunch flower punches I have used before, but also two new ones I haven't used.  I love how you can create so many different types of flowers with punches.  I thought I would play a little game today and let you tell me what type of flower you think this might be.  There is no wrong answer.  I will be selecting someone from all the comments on this blog post to receive the two new punches I have not used before.  I selected these punches in hopes you don't already have them, and would like to add them to your collection.  These punches are from Joan's Gardens.

Here are all the supplies used on this card:  The design paper is from the Kaiser Craft "Lilac Avenue Collection;  The doily under the flower is the new MFT "Dizzy Doily"; on top of that is the Memory Box "Valerian Flourish" (98196); topped with the Memory Box "Quinn Flourish" (98267).  The border along the bottom is from the new Spellbinders "Moroccan Accents" (S5-064) die set.  The sentiment is from the JustRite "Always & Forever Medallion Labels" stamp set.  The corners are from the Cheery Lynn "Lace Corner Deco B" (B162) die set.

To create the flowers I used the punches shown in this picture.  In the top row is the Punch Bunch "Small Heart".  You need to punch four of them for each flower and cut down the center as shown in the picture.  The next two rows show the Punch Bunch "Small Tear Drop".  You will need 16 of these.  At the end of these rows you can see the "Medium Daisy" which is used for a "base".  Eight petals will be glued to each Med. Daisy Base.   The two bottom rows show the "Martha Stewart "Cosmos" which is used for the base and two rows of the Punch Bunch "Small Pears".  Eight pears are glued to each "Cosmos" base.  In the upper right corner, there are 3 "Small Daisies" which will become of the center of the flower.  All the flower petals were shaped using the tools from the Flower tool kit before assembly.  To assemble the flowers you will be starting with the two layers of the "Pears" for the bottom.  Next layer on top of the pears will be two layers of the "Tear Drop".  You will add the layer created with the divided heart petals next and end with three small daisies glued together for the very center.   

In this picture you can see the petals glued to the base for each of the groups. The above picture doesn't show all the rows for one flower but you can see how the petals were glued to the base then they were shaped by pressing down into the black shaping mat to "cup" them.  At the top of the picture is the flower assembled.

Tulips and a Tutorial

It always amazes me what you can create with punched pieces.  This card was designed around some tulips I created with an "Apple" punch. For the background I used the Spellbinders "M-Bossabilities" Splendid embossing folder (EL-005). Behind the basket I used the Spellbinders "Lotus" die (S4-269) and one of the Heartfelt Creations Lacy Corners (HCD 704).   The Basket is the Cheery Lynn "Spring Basket 1" (DL214).  It is hard to see in this picture.  I placed the basket down in the new Poppy Stamps "Grassland Border" (825).  The white flowers in the tulip basket were created using the Cheery Lynn "Miniature Rose" (B152).  Punched stamens were added to the center.  The smaller daisies were taken out of my store of extra flowers. 

HERE IS A TUTORIAL ON HOW I CREATED THE TULIPS: 

This is a picture of the punches used and the number of pieces I need to create 3 tulips.  In this picture i was creating a red and white tulip.  The edges of white "apples" were sponged with red Distress Ink.

To assemble the tulip, you begin by using the green "snowflake" and add three petals to it.

Next, you add three more petals alternating from previous petals attached.

Glue in the black snowflake.

Start shaping the tulip using the rounded end of the white tool in the Flower Tool Kit.

I pressed down in the center of the tulip on the black Flower Shaping Mat to get it to "cup".

You can use your fingers to help form the flower around the end of the white tool.

 You need to shape the large Sky Flake before placing it in the tulip.

This is how the inside looks. Add glue to the center of the stamen and push down into the center of the tulip. You can add two black Sky Flakes for fuller stamens if you want.

 This is a picture of the outside of the tulip after it has been shaped.

 The punch I used for the leaves is the "Mega Elongated Leaves".  I used the pointed end for the tip of the leaves.

Here is another design I was "playing" with.  There are lots of different things you can do with your tulips. This card is not completed.  I just wanted to show it so you can see the tulips.
