ScorPal Shadow Box Tutorial

About a year ago, Diana Crick, creator of the Scor-Pal, asked me if she could publish a couple of my shadow box cards in the Scor-Pal Tutorials.  I was VERY honored she would ask me.  This card was created using Melanie Muenchinger's "A Year of Flowers" stamp set.   Here is the link for the November 2010 E-Zine where you can find my card and tutorial.  The other card, the Butterfly Shadow Box, is on the site but the link to the tutorial is not currently working. 

I have been using my Scor-Pal since they first came out and love it.  I also have the little Scor-Buddy and keep it right next to my work area for working on small projects.  This  month a new improved Scor-Pal is available.  It has a lot more 1/8 and 1/4" scoring lines which is even easier to use when you create projects that require closer score lines. I think I use my Scor-Pal every time I make a card or box and really don't know how we ever got along without it.  There is a little booklet that comes with the new Scor-Pal that has lots of information on how to make many different size envelopes.  If you would like to order the Scor-Buddy or the new improved Scor-Pal, you can order it from Joan's Gardens. 

Guest Designer for Melanie

Tonight I have the honor to post a card  I created using stamps from Melanie Muenchinger's new set "Buds and Vases" available from GinaK Designs.  I always love to guest design for Melanie. 

The terra cotta pot was stamped on light brown card stock and colored lightly with colored pencils and OMS.  Many of the open flowers, partially open flowers, buds and leaves were stamped and colored with Copic markers then cut out.  These are all single stamps in this set.  Also  some stems were stamped.  A slit was cut along the inside edge of the pot and stems inserted.  I started arranging flowers on each stem then added leaves to fill it in.  Tiny bronze beads were glued to the center of each open flower.

 The white square under the flowers was created using a Martha Stewart border punch.  Another piece of white card stock was  embossed with the Cuttlebug dotted Swiss embossing folder and placed in the center of this frame.  The rust piece was scored with the ScorBuddy along the edges.  These were layered onto white then to a mustard card.    The vase and flowers were attached and a small piece of grass created with a Martha Stewart grass punch added.  The tag was created with a sentiment from this stamp set.

I know lots of you do not like to cut images out, but I love to do this so had a lot of fun creating this beautiful pot of flowers.  I have several other cards made using this set that I will be posting next week.   You can see this set at GinaK Designs under "New Releases". 

STV Blog Hop for Melanie

Tonight Melanie Muenchinger has several designing friends sharing samples they created using some of their favorite sets from Melanie.  I have been a guest designer for Melanie several times and was happy to participate. My two favorite sets are "A Year of Flowers" and "A Year of Leaves".  I have created two projects so I could use both these stamp sets.

The card was created using "A Year of Flowers".  The card was inspired by all the  beautiful lilies I have growing in my yard right now.  The Apple Green card stock is from GKD.  It was embossed with the "Victoria"  Cuttlebug embossing folder.  The lace background was created with a Martha Stewart corner punch and then the center scored on the ScorBuddy.  Large green rhinestones were added to each corner.  The flowers were colored with Copic markers and cut out and arranged adding green leaves to fill in.  An embossed tag was added.  The greeting is from the same stamp set.

The Gable Box was created following a tutorial on SCS.  The card stock used is GKD "Pumpkin Spice".  Sorry this box did not photograph the rich colors on this box.    The leaves and acorns  are from Melanie's "A Year of Leaves" stamp set and were stamped on glossy card stock.  The color was added to the leaves by sponging on different colors.  The acorns were colored with Copic markers.  The verse is also from the same set.  The background paper is from "Me & My Big Ideas" paper pack and has metallic copper in it so I added some copper cording above the handle.  A Velcro dot holds the box closed.

A Cookie for You plus another challenge card

HAVE A COOKIE

Isn't this the cutest card!  Melanie Muenchinger designed this card using her stamp set called "Have a Cookie" available from Gina K Designs.  I recently purchased a book by Annie's Attic called "Interactive Cards" which features many cards by Melanie.  She also has a tutorial on her blog for this card here.  The card was very easy to make using Nestabilities, a Cuttlebug embossing folder and Melanie's stamp set. 

This next card is for Giovana's Friday Christmas Challenge over at StampTV.  This week the challenge is to make a card making the Sentiment the "star or focus" of your card. This card is white and silver but for some reason looks kind of gray or blue; not sure why.  I used Melanie's Munchinger's "Festive Frame" set for my sentiment.  I decided to make my background embossed rather than using design paper.  This card is 5x7".  Two different Cuttlebug Christmas embossing folders were used.  I embossed the center with the "Season's Greetings" folder then each side with the "Snowflake" folder.  I like the way this turned out.    A narrow piece of silver trim was added framing the "Season's Greetings" embossing.  The sentiment was embossed with silver embossing powder and cut out with a Nestie.  Two silver scalloped frames and one white frame were cut out with Nesties and layered under the sentiment using dimensionals.  To complete the card, clear rhinestones were added to some of the snowflakes and a silver sticker snowflake added under the sentiment.  This was a very quick and easy card to make.  It  is nice to get started on all my Christmas cards.

A Beautiful Life Frame

Melanie Muenchinger has another new stamp set that matches the "A Year of Flowers" set that I love to use.  The name of this set is called "A Beautiful Life".  To make this card, I used three stamp sets:  A Year of Flowers, A Beautiful Life and Pressed Flowers.  They are all a perfect match so the variety of things you can do is endless. 

To start with I stamped the "A Beautiful Life" frame on a piece of MS design paper.  I didn't want the center of the frame to have the polka dots so I used petite oval Nesties to cut two frames for the center.  The Nesties are a perfect match in size.  The white frame was sponged with green ink.  The verse from this set was stamped in the center.  By adding the Nestie frame in the middle, I was covering up part of the beautiful tulips.  I didn't have to worry because the tulips in the other sets are a perfect match.  I used the tulip from the Pressed Flowers set first.  Because this set is solid rubber, I first colored the tulip with a yellow marker then highlighted the bottom of the flower with an orange marker.  It was then lightly sprayed with a fine water mist to "mix" the colors then stamped onto white cs.  Next I used the tulip from the "A Year of  Flowers" set.  This is an outline stamp.  I used an Apricot ink to stamp the outline over the colored flower.  I love the effect you get when you do this technique.  It all blends together so well.  The new flowers were cut out and glued over the ones stamped on the frame. 

The next step was to use a Copic marker to color the stems and leaves a darker green.  The butterfly and bee are from the  "A Beautiful Life" set.  The butterfly was stamped on light yellow cs and lightly colored with Copic Markers.  When you look at a bee, it is always very black so I used a VersaMark pad to stamp it on bright yellow cs then used extra fine black embossing powder to give it that realistic look.    Both the butterfly and bee are on dimensional tape. 

The frame was matted onto a piece of black cs.  The background dp is from the Basic Grey "June Bug" paper pad.  The rectangle rhinestones were added to complete the card.

Paper Piecing Challenge

Did  you check out all the beautiful cards on the CSS Design Team Blog Hop last night.  Wow!  There are so many beautiful cards.  If you missed it, you can click here on Gina's Blog and take the tour. 

Tonight I am posting my example for doing the Paper Piecing technique.  You can go to StampTV here to see all the details about the Blast From the Past challenge and watch Gina's great video showing you how to do this technique. 

To create my card, I used two stamp sets from Gina K Designs:  Guiding Light and  Hip to be Square.  The  background paper is Gina's digital paper.  I started by stamping  the Hip to be Square Window.  Using a stamp positioner, I then stamped the lighthouse inside the window.  I stamped a second lighthouse on Eclipse masking tape and cut it out for my mask then stamped it once more on  another piece of Gina's digital paper so I could paper piece it.  Copic markers were used to color the blue potion of the lighthouse, the two buildings, and the sand.   A mask was placed over the  stamped design.   A large sponge dauber and blue ink  was used to create the sky.  My clouds were created using a piece of acetate cut in  scallops.  A darker blue ink was used for the ocean.  I originally was going to cut some Nestability stars to decorate this card  because I had used the  dp with stars for the lighthouse, but changed my mind and  added birds.  The birds were stamped and lightly colored with  a Copic marker and cut out.  I cut part of the wing off one  then placed one in the middle so I could draw a line through it.  I was trying to make it look as though you are looking out a window.  To decorate the bottom of the card, I cut  one plank of the woodgrain dp out, then used deckle scissors on each end and sponged on a little gray ink.  Screw brads were added at each end to help make it look rustic.

Hope You are Feeling Better Soon

Today I was going through some of the drawers in my stamp room and found some flowers I had quilled some time ago.  I decided I should use them.  I thought maybe a basket of daisies would cheer someone up.  (My DD may need surgery in a few days, so I will give this card to her.)

I used four different Gina K Designs stamp sets for this card.  The background was stamped with Melanie's  "Inspiration Mosaic" on some swirled background paper.  The basket is from Gina's "Eclectic Summer" set.  I colored the basket then colored all the leaves and flowers in the basket green because I wanted to attach the daisies I made with some glue dots to fill the basket.  The butterfly is from Gina's "Take Flight".  It was colored with Copic markers then some turquoise Stickles was added to glitz it up.  It was attached with a piece of dimensional tape.  The verse is from Gina's "Elegant Flowers" set.  I forgot to mention that rust colored rhinestones were added to the middle of each daisy. 

Have you ever done quilling?  It is a lot of fun and will add a lot of dimension to your cards.   

Spring Flowers

This is another card made with Melanie's "A Year of Flowers" stamp set.  I have this set on my desk and now I can't stop making cards with it.    These flowers are black embossed on purple vellum and cut out. I love the look of the flowers stamped on vellum because it makes them look dainty just like a real flower.  My background is a piece of DCWV Latte dp.  I cut out a Spellbinder Fleur De Lis frame.  The corner pieces are attached to a piece of black cs that was embossed with the Cuttlebug Dotted Swiss embossing folder.  The green frame is mounted on a piece of perfect plum cs that was embossed with the Cuttlebug Swirls embossing folder.  The flowers were arrange on the frame with the middle one stacked with 3 layers of the flower.  Leaves were glued under the flowers.  The verse is from Gina K's Picture It stamp set.  Gosh, working with these flowers is making me anxious for Spring to arrive!

Be like the flower

I am feeling much better today.  Thank you for all the Get Well wishes.  Joan Fricker, from Joan's Gardens,  asked me to do a workshop for her in May and I have been working this morning with her to figure out the projects we will be doing.  I have not actually met Joan yet so I am very excited to meet her and to go out and do this workshop. 

This afternoon we are having a Super Bowl party, but have some free time, so decided to make a card with some of the flowers I have stamped from Melanie's  "A Year of Flowers" stamp set. I stamped the lillies on yellow vellum paper and cut them out.  The leaves and stems are also stamped on vellum.  The background paper is from the Basic Grey "Origins" paper pad.  I cut out a white and green scalloped circle with Nestabilities.  The white one was embossed with the dotted Swiss Cuttlebug embossing folder.  The flowers were arranged on the top portion of this circle.  The bottom is a piece of barely banana cs with another piece of the dp from the paper pack.  I know what you are going to say -- my verse doesn't fit in the tag but I really wanted to use this tag and that verse, so even though it doesn't fit correctly, I used it.  The verse is from Melanie's "Say it with Flowers" set and was so perfect for these yellow lillies, don't you think.  The tag is from Spellbinders and I purchased it from Gina K Designs.  I used a MS border along the top of the tag then added some pale yellow pearls to finish it off.

 I sometimes think I have probably made every card I can with this "Year of Flowers" stamp set, but there is always something  that pops to mind and has been my most used stamp set.  I think I might actually wear this one out, LOL.  If you don't have this set, I highly recommend getting it because you can always use a great flower stamp set.  Melanie has a new release coming out next week.  Be sure to watch Gina K's blog for the previews.

Tulip Shadow Box

Have you ever entered a "Flower Picking" Contest?  Melanie Muenchinger has a contest for everyone who has her "Year of Flowers" stamp set.  You just have to create a "new" creation and add it to Mr. Linky on her blog.  From all these entries, she will choose one to send her new February stamp set, AND she will choose a Guest Designer for MARCH!  Making a new creation with this stamp set is a really fun challenge.  As you know, I love this set and have many cards on my blog created with these beautiful flowers. 

I decided to make a "shadow box" card and to use the tulip stamp from this set.  The top portion of the shadow box is Gina K's new pink card stock and the bottom is white cs. These pieces are 6" square and scored at 1/2" and 1" on opposite sides using my ScorPal.  A piece of white card stock was embossed with the Sizzix Final Press embossing folder then I used a peitite oval Nestability to cut out an oval opening.  Then a smaller Nestie oval was used to cut an opening in the top portion of the shadow box.  A piece of designer paper was added to the bottom portion of the shadow box.  The tulips were black embossed onto more of the pink cs and sponged lightly with pink ink.  The leaves and stems were black embossed on green vellum paper.  Two of the tulips were attached with dimensionals on the inside of the box along with stems and leaves.  Six more tulips were added along the left side of the oval.  I love the dimension you get when creating a shadow box card.

A Martha Stewart punch was used to punch both a pink and white border for each side of the card and a white border added along the bottom.  The verse was stamped and cut out with a Nestability tag.  A pink ribbon was run through the ends of the label and attached with ScorTape.  A thin white strip was embossed with the dotted Swiss embossing folder and attached with more ScorTape.  Pink pearls were added to complete the design.

Melanie asked me to post cards from two different sets today so I have two cards for this blog hop.  This is the first card  featuring her set called  "Say it With Flowers".   The flowers are from Melanie's  "A Year of Flowers" and the verse is from "Say It With Flowers".  There are so many beautiful verses in this set that can be used with many of Melanie's stamp sets.

The flowers on this card were black embossed on Lovely Lilac cs and cut out.  The leaves were stamped on Certainly Celery cs.  The dp is from SU.  Two Nestabilities Label 4 frames were cut to mount the flowers and leaves on.  A Martha Stewart punch was used for the border.  A green bow and pearls were added to complete the card.

Merry Christmas

I want to wish all of you a Very Merry Christmas.  It has been a wonderful year making so many blogging friends.  I'm so happy you stop by to visit me on my blog and want to let you know I really appreciate all your comments.  I love to share what I do and it is nice to know you enjoy my work.  Happy Holidays.

My card tonight is one I made for my StampTV  "Blast From The Past" Challenge.  This week your challenge is to watch Gina's technique video "Using Colored Pencils and OMS" then create a card using this technique and add it to the STV gallery.  You can read all the details on the StampTV challenges here.

I used Melanie's "Festive Frame" stamp set for this Christmas card.  Everything was colored using the technique in Gina's video.  Glitter was added the the oval frame and on the pinecones and berries.  Gold beads were added to the center of the poinsettias.  Gina's beautiful "Good As Gold" metallic card stock was used for matting this beautiful design.

Two Challenges for STV

Today I am posting two cards I made for Challenges on StampTV.  I had a hard time taking a good picture of this card.  I posted it yesterday on StampTV, but decided since we have a tiny bit of sun today took a new picture.  It does look better with less shadows.  I wanted to exchange it with the one posted on STV but already had lots of comments so decided not to change the picture. 

Jennie Harper is the new STV hostess for the Sketch Challenges.  I love this sketch and wanted to submit a card.  The stamp set used is "Winter Friends" available from GKD.  The gifts were silver embossed on white and cut out.  Two different Cuttlebug embossing folders were used for texture on the  white backgrounds.  Silver cs was added behind the two larger embossed pieces and a silver ribbon added under the design which was cut out with Nestabilities.  The greeting is from Gina's "Holiday Greetings".  Two silver brads were added to complete the Sketch Challenge.

Another STV challenge this week is hosted by Carolina.  She is the hostesses for the "Anything But a Card Challenge: Treat Holder.  I like to make some type of special treat for my grandkid's Christmas packages.  They all love York Pepperment Mints.  I got this idea from Tracy's Inky Doodles blog and put my own "spin" on it.  I had so much fun working on this project.

I used Melanie's Hip To Be Square stamp set available from Gina K Designs.  This set contains all the stamps needed for this cute snowman. The white circles were stamped and punched out. Using a sponge dauber, I added a little blue around the edges of each one.  The face was stamped on one of the circles.  The hat was stamped and cut out then glued onto the head.  A piece of ScorTape was added on the hat so I could sprinkle on red glitter.  Nestabilities were used to cut out six red and six green scalloped.  The front and back of each candy piece is decorated.  The red and green pieces were glued together along with one of the pieces of the snowman.  Small, flat backed, pearls were added for buttons.  A piece of Gina's Christmas ribbon was tied and added for a scarf.  Each piece was added to a small York Peppermint pattie with ScorTape.    Starting with the bottom of the snowman, each piece was pushed down into a Wilton Pretzel bag, which was purchased from Michael's Craft Store.

The topper is a piece of white card stock stamped with the greeting from "Winter Friends".  Isn't this perfect for this project!  A scalloped punch was used along the bottom edge and small red and green rhinestones added in each scallop.  A bow made with another piece of Gina's ribbon was added on the top.  The bag was stapled closed and the topper added with ScorTape.

Merry Christmas Poinsettia

Tonight my card is made using Melanie's "A Year of Flowers" stamp set.  You can purchase this set from Gina K Designs.  The poinsettia was black embossed on watercolor paper then watercolored.  Small gold beads were added to the center. 

The background is a piece of Basic Grey dp.  A  Nestie was used to cut out the olive green scalloped then it was embossed with the Cuttlebug Dotted Swiss  embossing folder.  A Martha Stewart punch was used to create the frame and also the border along the bottom.  The poinsettia was attached with dimensionals.   Martha Stewart leaves were added under the flower.  A piece of dotted Swiss ribbon was added along the bottom then the verse attached with dimensionals.  Pearls were added to finish the card.

I have two cards for you tonight.

Don't you love Blog Hops!  You can always get so many great ideas.   This card was made using Rupa Shevde Winter Friends available from Gina K Designs.  There are so many cute winter images in this set.  Keeping with the challenge,  I stamped the skating penguin on a piece of patterned paper and colored him with Copic markers.  Circle Nestabilities were used to cut out the design.  The trees from Gina's Tree Silhouettes were white embossed on another piece of patterned paper.  The verse from Winter Friends was stamped in black.  Each layer of the penguin design is separated with dimensionals.  I couldn't forget the glitter.  There is glitter on the snowflakes, the trees,  on the edges of the snow banks, and of course under the penguin's feet.

I want to show you the inside of this card.  One of the other penguins from Winter Friends was stamped on white cardstock and colored with Copic markers.  Using a stamp positioner, I stamped celebrate on the sign which is perfect for this birthday card.  The cute little bird and dog were stamped in black, colored with Copics then cut out.  The background behind the penguin is a piece of white CS that was embossed with a Cuttlebug embossing folder then cut to resemble banks of snow.  Glitter was added along the top of each.

Here is my second card.



This is another card  stamped on patterned paper. It is an "Easel Card".   The card base is cranberry cs.   I used Melanie's Festive Frame stamp set.  It was stamped using Memento black ink and colored with Copic markers.  I used a VersaMark pen to paint over the poinsettia then used Irridescent Ice embossing power to give them a glittery appearance.  The berries were colored with a Copic marker then pink Stickles added to give them shine.  The verse is also from Festive Frame. 

A border was created on a piece of gray dp with a MS punch.  The stamped image was attached then pearls added to the center of each poinsettia and each corner of the design.  On the inside of the card, a piece of cranberry cs was embossed with a Cuttlebug embossing folder.  I added some burgundy glitter to the flower and attached it to a button so it would hold the card open.  A flat backed pearl was added to the center.   A small silver bow was added to complete the card.  When the card is closed, it is 5.5 inches square.

Ivory and Pink Festive Frame

I made this card for someone special.  It is made with Melanie's Festive Frame available from Gina K Designs.  There are so many ways to use this stamp.  The background piece was embossed, on each side,  with a Cuttlebug border embossing folder.  The beautiful ivory ribbon is from a craft store.  The frame was embossed on Ivory card stock with Vanilla embossing powder then watercolored.  To give it some contrast, I attached it to a piece of Gina K gold card stock.

I want to wish all of you a very Happy Thanksgiving.  We will be spending the day with our daughter and her family.

Glittery Festive Frame

I am showing you four different pictures here of the same card.    When you twist it, you can see different colors. 

This card is made with Melanie Muenchinger's "Festive Frame" stamp set available from Gina K Designs.  I can't stop working with this beautiful frame.  The size of this card is 5x7 inches.  This size card does not require extra postage.  I found a piece of silver glitter looking card stock in my things and wondered how this frame would look on it. The finished card basically looks silver on white, with pastel colors appearing when you twist the card.  In the photos, the colors are intensified.

I stamped the frame using VersaFine black ink and because this ink stays "wet" I decided to put clear embossing powder over it.  What I didn't know was that the embossing powder would cling to the entire frame even though I used a Powder Pal.  At first I freaked out.  Oh well, I just heat embossed it and it turned out fine.  I cut out the inside of the frame with a Tim Holtz knife.   I silver embossed Ornaments from Nina's "Vintage Borders" on white card stock and layered it under the frame.  The verse from Festive Frame was stamped in black. 

The white background was embosssed with a Cuttlebug embossing folder.  A piece of white and silver ribbon was attached under the picture then a button attached with glue dots.  Two sticker silver snowflakes were added at the top.

Festive Frame

I created these cards for the StampTV Customer Blog Hop.  I didn't post them yesterday with my other cards because it would have made my post too long. Be sure to go to Gina's blog, to find the links to  all the other customer blogs, for lots of other creative ideas for your Christmas cards. 

Melanie's "Festive Frame" stamp set was used for both cards below and for the frame. As I'm sure you know, I love working with Melanie's "A Year of Flowers" stamp set and this poinsettia is the same as in that set.  I love this Festive Frame set.

This first card was stamped using VersaFine Brown ink on Ivory CS. I stamped each corner poinsettia two more times and cut them out.  The top layer was cut leaving off part of the bottom petals of the flower so I could layer them for dimension.  Some glitter was added to make the flowers shimmer.  The pines and pinecones were colored with Copic markers.  I then used a VersaMarker to created a gold frame in the middle and also added gold embossing on the berries and the center of the flowers.  The beautiful verse was also gold embossed using Super Fine Gold Embossing Powder from Gina K Designs.

The back ground is gold card stock layered with a piece of SU designer paper.  The stamped frame was attached with adhesive and the poinsettias were layered using dimensionals.  An ivory bow was added to complete the beauty of the card.

This is another elegant card using the "Festive Frame".  The image was stamped using River Rock ink.  I stamped the poinsettias from each corner and cut them out to layer them.  I patted them onto a VersaMark ink pad and embossed with Irridescient embossing powder to give them a "frosted" look.  I wanted to give the frame some dimension so I used my "Double Embossing" technique.  One of the oval Nestabilities fits the oval of the stamped frame really close so I used it to emboss the oval.  I then used my oval wooden frame to embossed the outside of the frame with the Cuttlebug Dotted Swiss embossing folder.  I have a tutorial futher down in my blog on how to do this.  The beautiful verse was gold embossed. The image was layered onto a piece of always artichoke cs.  The base card is Ivory. 

I am not sure  I like the way I completed this framed picture of two of my grandsons.  I black embossed the Festive Frame on a piece of cranberry designer paper.  I thought it would be cute to cut around the boys and insert them in the frame trying to make it look like they are leaning out of it.  I first cut out their picture using an oval Nestability then cut around their heads with scissors.  I  cut around the poinsettia design on the bottom of the stamped frame and inserted the picture behind the flower.  The frame was matted onto a piece of black cs then onto another piece of cranberry cs.  I should have used the computer to write in their names on the tag but decided to just write it.  I know I am going to be making a lot more frames to give my kids so they can frame Christmas pictures.  My husband really likes this frame so I decided to go ahead and post it.
