Beautiful Roses

 Today's card made me happy; I love how it turned out.  I used some of my favorite products; Heartfelt Creations flowers, Marianne Design dies, and Graphic 45 Design Paper.

 Here is a picture of the products I used.  I have had the Graphic 45 Botanical Tea 8x8 inch  Paper Pad and 6x6 inch Patterns and Solid paper pad for a while now and don't believe I have used it.  I love the papers in these pads so much,  maybe I was afraid to use it up!  I am so happy I did.  I love the large pink rose in the design paper so turned to my Heartfelt Creations Arianna Blooms stamps and die to create flowers.  When I create flowers, I always create a lot while I am doing it and in this picture you can see I even created a few different style flowers with the Arianna Blooms, which I will use later.

Have you used the Heartfelt Creations Arianna Blooms stamps and die to create flowers?    It is so quick and easy and you can create so many different types of flowers.   I stamped the flowers (which are all on one stamp) using Pink Pastel Color Box Chalk ink on Bazzill iced pink card stock.  The matching die for this stamp is so easy to use.  You can just line  it up over the stamped image, and you get five die cut flowers. I use a magnetic plate so didn't even need to tape the die down.  For the largest flower, I used 3 of the largest petals, 3 of the next size down, and just one of the 3rd size down for the center.  For the medium flower, I did the same thing using the three smallest petals.  For the buds, I used the next to the smallest petals and just folded them up into a bud.

I used the Marianne Design Anja's Delicate Corners for the base piece of the design.  Next I die cut the frame and center circle from the Marianne Design Petra's Circle and Crown (LR0317) to frame a piece of the Graphic 45 Design paper that I wanted to use.  The design paper was die cut using the circle die that comes in the Petra's Circle set and attached it to the card stock circle. I sponged blue ink around the edges. The frame was attached with dimensional tape to the card.  The circle was attached with two sided adhesive so the frame is up higher.  It was dropped into place, so it was perfectly centered, after the frame was attached.

 The bird, butterflies, leaves and stamp squares were cut out from the design paper.

 The polka dot and solid blue design paper were used from the Graphic 45 6x6" Patterns & Solid Botanical Tea paper pad.  A piece of sticky back ribbon was placed across the middle of the card (under the frame).  To complete the card, I used a lot of pearls in the design.

Today I have a quick and easy card for you.  This card was designed with a  new Marianne Design die (CR1265) that I received from my dear friend Eva.  I used it with a sheet of design paper from the Graphic 45, Sweet Sentiment 8x8 pad.  I used a spray adhesive on the back of the die cut and arranged it with the little girl in the center.  To give the card some dimension, I die cut some Susan's Garden Quince flowers, which match the flowers in the design paper. I have posted a tutorial on how to create these flowers in an earlier post.   Flowers were added on both sides of the sentiment.

Susan's Garden Quince and Grid Works

 Today I have a project I loved working on and I hope you like it as much as I do.  This is a 6" square black box I decorated using Susan's Garden Flowering Quince dies, Susan's Grid Works (1 3/8in Squares), and Graphic 45 "Secret Garden" design paper.   The Grid Works were very easy to create and so much fun to work with.

 I LOVE the design paper in the Graphic 45 Secret Garden 8x8 Paper Pad.  One of the sheets had a variety of images I thought would look great die cut with Susan's Grid Works die.   You know how I like to duplicate flowers in design paper!   Well I die cut a lot of the Quince petals, using a very light peach card stock the same color as the flowers in the design paper.  At the base of each flower petal, I sponged on Fired Brick Distress Ink.  The flowers turned out exactly like the ones in the design paper.  Tomorrow I will post a tutorial on how to create the Quince Buds with these dies. 

This is a picture of the Susan's Garden Flowering Quince dies, the Susan's Grid Works squares die, and the Art Squares "Inchies" (Black 1-1/2" squares) I used.  Susan as designed Grid Works dies to fit a variety of Inchie Squares which are available from Ellen Hutson, LLC.  These are the same squares you see Susan use in her instructions when creating flowers.

 To decorate this box, I added a Tim Holtz, Locket to the front of the box, and Tim Holtz Box Feet to raise the box.  Adding these embellishments really created a very elegant box.

I added a few embellishments (bird cage, bird, and "Harmony" die cut) to the top of the box from my stash.   I'm sorry but I don't know for sure where they are from.

 On the inside of the box I added another piece of the Graphic 45, Secret Garden design paper, and another stem of Susan's Garden Flowering Quince.

Susan's Garden Lovely Dogwoods

Today I am posting a card created with the Susan's Gardens "Dogwood" dies.  These flowers are very quick and easy to create with the instructions in the package or by watching the video by Susan Tierney Cockburn.  Susan created a white dogwood and I decided to create pink ones to match the design in the Graphic 45 "Secret Garden" paper.  The polka dot design paper is from the Echo Park Paper Co "Bundle of Joy - Dots & Stripes" paper pad.  

The corners I used were die cut with  Joy Craft (0135) dies.  Under the flower arrangement I added the Memory Box "Tessatina Border and the "Loom Circle".   

These flowers come with two petals attached per die so you just crisscross two pieces to create the flower. The flowers were shaped with the new Sizzix Flower Tool Kit.

Susan's Garden Peony

I am still having fun working with the new Susan's Garden flower dies by Susan Tierney-Cockburn This pretty flower is the Peony.  The background design paper is from the Graphic 45 "Birdsong" Paper Pad.  I used one of the new Memory Box frames called "Victorian Frame" for the sentiment from the JustRite "Grand Sentiments" stamp set.  The frame was sponged with Tea Dye Distress Ink.  The small Cheery Lynn Butterfly was die cut with the angel wing.  The angle wing is light pink and the butterfly was die cut using beige card stock then sponged with Tea Dye Distress Ink.  To complete the card I added a pink silk bow and some Kaiser Craft pearls.

Today I have another card created with the new Susan's Gardens "Rose".  The background was embossed with the Crafter's Companion "Floral" 6x6" embossing folder; it was sponged with Tea Dye  and Scattered Straw Distress Ink.  The embossed piece was attached to a lace frame created with the Martha Stewart "String Lace" punches.  I created the rose and the rose bud with the Susan's Gardens "Rose" dies; they were placed over the Heartfelt Creations "Bella Rose" flourish.  The edges of the petals on the rose were brushed with the  Adirondack "Pearl" Metallic Acrylic Paint Dauber, to make it resemble the rose in the attached sentiment.  The pretty sentiment was cut from the Graphic 45 "Secret Garden" 8x8" paper pad. To complete this card I attached a peach silk bow.

What is your favorite Susan's Garden Die

  All these flowers were very easy to create with Susan's new improved flower petals and tools. As I mentioned in a previous post, Susan Tierney-Cockburn designed the petals on the Punch Bunch punches we started creating flowers with.   All these dies come in a separate little plastic envelope for storage and with instructions. When you get your flower dies, I suggest you write the name of the flower on the back of each die, just in case you have more than one set open and get them mixed up.  There is a diagram of each die in the package on the back of the instruction sheet, but I found it a great help to have each die marked - I used a fine point Sharpie. I do want to mention again that the new Sizzix Flower Tool Kit that Susan designed is much improved over the old tool kit.  It has everything you need.  This kit has a special tool and pad just for adding a realistic look to your leaves and petals, that you did not get in the old kit. I will talk about some of the features of these tools in upcoming posts.

I can't tell you which one of these flowers is my favorite because I loved creating all of them. Which one is your favorite?  I created three different colors of the dogwood so thought I would start showing you my card collection featuring the white dogwood.

The background paper I used is from the Graphic 45 "Secret Garden" paper pad.  The border around the card was created with the Martha Stewart "Vintage Floral" punch set.  In the center of the card I placed the Spellbinders "Medallion One" doily and in the center of it I attached the Spellbinders "Lace Doily Motif".  The pretty dogwoods were created with the Sizzix "Susan's Garden Dogwood" die set.   Don't they look like real flowers!  The sentiment is from the Our Daily Bread "Birthday Blessings" stamp set.

Joan's Gardens Weekly Challenge

It is time for a new challenge over at Joan's Gardens.  Here are the requirements:

• Use a square
• Alter something...even if it is a card
• Use flowered paper...you can make it

I have been having fun decorating those $1.00 wood frames from Michael's.  The flower design paper I used is from the Graphic 45 "Secret Garden" 8x8 pad.  I started by cutting the center out of the design paper where the photo can be placed.  I used the Tim Holtz Craft Knife and a ruler to do this.  The design paper was attached to the frame with Modge Podge.  Narrow strips of black card stock were cut and attached to the inside square and also on the outside of the frame with Modge Podge.  The center piece that was cut out was attached to a piece of black card stock and placed back in the opening.

You know how I love to duplicate flowers I see in design paper and that is what I did for this frame.  I die cut a bunch of the Memory Box "Fabulous Phlox" flowers and sponged them with peach ink before shaping them. Stamens from the Build A Flower #1 Embellishments" were die cut. I used a marker to create a darker tip, shaped and placed two in the center of each flower. Several Memory Box "Fresh Foliage" pieces were die cut that were placed behind the flowers.  The two little Impression Obsession birds were sponged and attached around the flowers with dimensional tape.  A few pearls were added to complete this frame.

Violets and Leaf Tutorial

The new  Graphic 45 "Secret Garden" 8x8" paper pad has such gorgeous papers. You know how much I like purple so I really wanted to create something with the lavender paper and one of the little panels on one of these sheets.  The Graphic 45 paper was added to the background, then the Spellbinders A2- Filigree Delight" frame was added for the background to this arrangement. (The color of card stock is not coming out the true color in this photo - it is more lavender.) Violets were created using  Punch Bunch petals.  There is a Marianne Design "Garden Branch" and a Memory Box "Fresh Foliage"  leafy die cut behind the the violets.    

I received the following email:

 "I love the Memory Box dies well, but I notice on your flowers and leaves you always have them "come to life" with a tool I imagine, but what do you use? I am always finding myself tearing and I know I don't have the right tools, but I look and look and can't find what I think will work. Can you help me?"

I used the Memory Box Fresh Foliage Leaf die she was asking about and thought I would answer explaining here how I made the leaves come to life.  As most of you know, I always use the tools available from Joan's Gardens to shape all my flowers.  Here is a picture:

Flower Tool Kit

To shape the leaves, I use the self-closing tweezers, shown in the top left of this kit.  I place the tweezers on the tip of each leaf, right in the middle, and pinch the edges up to give it a dimensional look.  I think by doing this it creates a more realistic looking leaf.  On the little tiny leaves, I place the tweezers on one side and pinch up the other side.

Graphic 45 Box with Drawers

I am excited to finally be able to post this project.  My  friend Pat and I started working on creating a box, with drawers, out of a cigar box, about three weeks ago.  The actual box did not take long to decorate, but what took so long was figuring exact measurements to create six little boxes, for drawers inside the box. I'm not going to give you the measurements because cigar boxes comes in many different sizes and the drawers need to be created to fit perfect inside your particular box.    Pat's box is decorated totally different - all in a music theme.  She hasn't quite finished it, so I did not take a picture yet.

I love Graphic 45 design paper so decided to use papers from the "A Ladies Diary" Collection.  This pad has the most gorgeous "ladies" and I love the flowers on many of the pages.  To create dimensional flowers very similar to the ones in the design paper, I used the new Memory Box "Fabulous Phlox" dies.  They were die cut using white card stock and sponged with "Tattered Rose" Distress Ink.   Don't you think this die created a perfect match to those in the design paper!

   This is a closeup of the front.  Hopefully you can see how close the flowers look to those in the design paper.  In this picture you can also see how I added tiny Kaiser Craft pearls to the necklace on the beautiful lady.   

Here you can see the drawers inside.  I created six little "Match Boxes" that fit tightly inside.  

All the paper used to decorate this box is from the Graphic 45 "A Ladies Diary Collection".

Graphic 45 Bird Song Card and Tutorial

EDITED:  I listed an incorrect measurement in this post and it is corrected in "red" below.  I am sorry about this mistake.   Also I have now listed the size of the outside of the card, also in "red".  

Have you ever seen a card at some time, then thought about it later.  Well that is what happened with me today.  I remember seeing a card that was "similar" to this shape but did not have a picture of the card to look at.  I don't know what this type of card is called, but I love the dimension.  It took me hours to figure out a template and I thought I would share it with you.  I will show you the front of this card at the bottom of this post.

The card base is 10"x6".  It has two long cuts, to form a 1" band across the top and the bottom.

I used a Fiskars paper cutter.  This paper cutter made it real easy to make cuts like the ones I needed on this card.  The edge of the card stock is 1" from the cut line and cut down from the 1" mark to the 9" mark on the paper cutter.  This leaves a 1" border.  You need to flip the card stock over and duplicate this same cut on the other side.

There are seven score lines on the card.  You need to score all the way down in the very middle of the card, which is at 5".  Then starting on the left side, score between the cut lines at 1", and again at 1 3/4", just on the center portion - you are scoring from the top cut line down to the bottom cut line.  Then you need to duplicate this on the other end at 8 1/4" and at 9".  These score lines will create the "box" look on each side of the card.  Up on the 1" band, on both the top and bottom, you need to score at 3" and 7", only on the 1" band.

To decorate this card I used the beautiful Graphic 45 "Bird Song" 8"x8" paper pad.   I cut out different sections of the design paper,  sometimes using both of the same sheet of paper.  There are so many different ways you can decorate when using this pad but hope you like what I did.

Once the inside was all decorated, and folded on the score lines,  I added ScorTape to the areas shown to hold it to the outside (front and back piece) of the card.

You need to attach the inside to a slightly larger piece of card stock that has been scored and folded down the center.  My outside piece measures 10 1/2" x 6 1/2".    Attach the inside by placing it right in the center, on the fold; then pressing down on both the front and back pieces, making sure it is going on straight.  

Once it is taped down, this is how it will look from the top view.

Here is another picture show you can see the box look on the inside.  Hopefully this picture will help you with how to fold the score lines.

This is the front of the card. I wanted to create a flower similar to the flowers in the Song Bird design paper so I used the Cheery Lynn "Stacker Flower #6".  They were die cut using white card stock and three flowers were glued together.  I needed to have more of an off white flower,  so I spritzed each flower with the Ranger "Cappuccino" Perfect Pearls Mist.  It doesn't show up well in the picture, but it gave the flowers a beautiful beige color.  By misting the flowers, I was able to shape them to resemble the flowers in the paper.  In the very center I added multi-colored small beads for the stamen.  

I used the Spellbinders "Labels Twenty" dies to cut out a piece of black card stock and a smaller label using a piece of the design paper from the Song Bird paper pad.  Cheery Lynn "Lace Corners" were stained with Distress Inks then added to the top of the card.  The background was embossed with the eBosser "Delicate Dots" embossing folder.   The flowers were attached with glue dots then the Cheery Lynn "Rose Leaves" and Marianne Design "Garden Branches" were tucked under them.
