Winter Wonderland

This week the challenge at Joan's Gardens is to create a Christmas card with the following requirements:

• Christmas pattern Paper for background
• Warn and Cozy Colors
• Snow Flakes
• Christmas Trees or Santa or anything reflecting Christmas

The design paper I used for my card is from the MME "Vintage Christmas" 6x6 Pad.  The pretty winter scene is a stamp from the Heartfelt Creations "Winter Season PreCut Set".  It was stamped with black VersaMark ink and clear embossed on a piece of sparkly white card stock.  The beauty of the sparkles does not show up in this photo.  The image was colored then Ranger Distress Stickles added for additional shine.  The image and background were die cut using Spellbinders Oval Nestabilities.     This image was attached with dimensional tape.

In front of the Winter Scene, I added a die cut tree from Marianne Design.  The pine branch at the top was die cut using a Impression Obsession die.  On the branch I added one of the Heartfelt Creations "Petite Poinsettia" flowers.  It was die cut using the matching dies.The sentiment is from the Heartfelt Creations "Winter Season PreCut Set".  It was white embossed then die cut using the Spellbinders "Labels One" die.  The snowflake by the sentiment is from the Marianne Design, COL 1330, die set.   To add snow effects on this card, I used Tulip Puffy paint.  It was heat set and glitter added.

Joan's Gardens Weekly Challenge

 

It is time for a new challenge at Joan's Garden.  We have had requests to include Christmas cards in the weekly challenges to help you get your cards made before the holidays.  

For my card I used a piece of Kaiser Craft 6 1/2" design paper from the "Turtle Dove" pad.  The pretty frame was die cut using the Memory Box, "Palace Oval Frame" die, using white card stock.  To give it a pretty glitter finish, I used the Viva Decor "Moss Green Metallic" 3-D Stempel-Farbe on the outer portion of the frame.  The gold oval was colored with Viva Decor Gold Rub-on. If you haven't used these metallic products, I'm sure you will especially love them on your Christmas cards.   The center scalloped part of the frame was sponged with Tea Dye Distress Ink.  The sentiment is from the JustRite "Merry & Bright Christmas Inner Thoughts" stamp set.  The poinsettias were created with the Cheery Lynn "Poinsettia Strip" and the Holly flourish was die cut using the Cheery Lynn "Holly Flourish" die.

Joan's Gardens Weekly Challenge

It is time for a new challenge at Joan's Gardens. For this challenge this week create a card with:

• Die Cut image
• Colors of purple and white
• Textured layer
• Leaves

My card for the challenge is 6x6" square.  I used the Crafter's Workshop "Mini Curl Frame" template and Liquitex Modeling Paste to create the background.  As soon as the Modeling Paste was dry, I used the Purple Pan Pastels to go over the raised parts of the design.  To mute it a little, I then went over it with the light pink Pan Pastels.  I used the tools that come with the Pan Pastels.  In the center of this frame, I added the Cheery Lynn "Cape Cod Doily".  I did not punch out all the die cut pieces - only the daisy in the center, then added a piece of purple card stock to the back so the daisy was show cased.

The daisies were created with the new Cheery Lynn "Black Eyed Susan" dies.  I colored the center of the daisies with the Pan Pastels then used a marker to draw in the lines.  The leaves behind the flowers were die cut using the Memory Box "Fresh Foliage" die.  The flowers and leaves were shaped using the Susan's Garden Flower Tool Kit.  In the corners, I added two Spellbinders "Parisian Accents" corners.

Joan's Gardens Weekly Challenge

 It is time for a new challenge at Joan's Gardens.  This week we would like to have you create a floral card:

• Have three dimensional flowers with greenery
• Use a Floral Design Paper
• Use A doily
• Use a product from Joan's Gardens

I hope you like this card as much as I do.  My card base is 5.5" square.  I used the largest Cheery Lynn "Horizon Square Boutique Stacker Frame" and layered it with a piece of glittered floral design paper from the Best Creation, Inc 6x6" Glitter Paper Pad.  A corner rounder was used to round the corners to fit inside the Stacker Frame.  The pretty doily is the MFT "Dizzy Doily".  On the top portion of the doily, I used one of the stamps from the Penny Black "Gratitude" stamp set.  It was stamped using VersaFine black ink then clear embossed.

The pretty roses were created with the MFT "Large Rolled Rose".  These roses are so easy to create because you just use your tweezers and roll them up.  I wanted a two shaded rose so used the Susan's Garden bright pink PanPastel down on the bottom portion of the petals.  After shading them, I shaped the petals with the largest stylus in the Susan's Garden Flower Tool Kit.  By shaping each petal, it made the rose more realistic.  Once rolled, I place some "Crafter Pick Ultimate Glue" on the circle at the base of the flower to hold the shape of the flower in place.

To decorate around the roses, I added some MFT "Royal Leaves".  I sponged on a little larger green after shaping the leaves.  Around these larger leaves, I added some Cheery Lynn leaves from the "Flourish Leaf Strip".  To finish off the arrangement, I die cut the Marianne Design "Decorative Elegance" die using three different shades of lavender card stock.  I added Ranger "Distress Stickles Clear Rock Candy dry glitter" to match the glitter in the background design paper.

Susan's Garden Mini Lily Dies

It is time for a new challenge at Joan's Gardens.  There are so many new Christmas products out we thought it would be fun to get started on Christmas cards. For this challenge create a card with the following:

• A Christmas theme
• Use the traditional red and green colors
• Have something from nature (pine cones, birds, flowers, etc)

For my project I created a card and decided to attach it to one of the $1.00 wood frames from Michaels.   I used a piece of  design paper from an older Kaiser Craft pad.  The beautiful cardinal is a new background stamp from the JustRite "Christmas Cardinal Background" stamp.  The image was stamped once with VersaMark and Gold Embossed.  It was stamped again using black ink.  The image that was gold embossed was trimmed down around the gold frame and the cardinal was cut out from the one stamped in black.  It was colored using markers and attached over the gold embossed cardinal with pop dots.

The tiny poinsettias were created with the dies in the Susan's Gardens "Mini Lily" set.  Gold Stickles was added to the center of each flower.  Can you see the three little pine cones?  They were created with the Susan Gardens "Mini Petals".  I love to create pine cones for my holiday cards.   I learned to make pine cones from the "Paper Bouquet Book" by Susan Tierney-Cockburn.  She uses "YES" Glue to form the pine cones.  I am going to do a separate post, with a tutorial, on how I created the pine cones.  The greenery behind the flowers were die cut with the Cheery Lynn "Holly Flourish" die.  The completed pine cones were added under the flowers.

 The Christmas sentiment was die cut with the Cheery Lynn "Merry Christmas Set" die.  I used Viva "Inka-Gold" to color it.  Inka Gold is a paste and I just rubbed it over the sentiment then polished it with a soft rag to bring out the shine.  The snowflakes were die cut using the Cheery Lynn "Snow Flowers #1" and Snow Flowers #2" dies.  The set contains both "Merry" and "Christmas".

For my card I used the Anna Griffin "Poppy" embossing folder for the embossed background.  The flowers were created using the Heartfelt Creations Delicate Asters stamps.  The flowers were stamped with VersaMark ink and white embossed, then cut out with the matching dies.  The leaves were also white  embossed on green card stock and die cut with matching die.  The pretty lace behind the flowers is the Heartfelt Creations "Decorative Blossom Corner".  I layered the Cheery Lynn "Two of Hearts" and "Heart to Heart" dies for the pretty heart.  Kaiser Craft pearls were added to complete the card.

Joan's Gardens Weekly Challenge

 

The doilies in the background are from the Cheery Lynn "Oval Doily Stacker One" doily set.  There are three doilies in this set plus the plain oval which I used for the sentiment.  I really like that these are stacker doilies and you can use just one or even all three together.

The  purple flowers were created using the Cheery Lynn Stacker Flower #4. The center of all the flowers were colored with Susan's Garden Pan Pastels.  The pink roses were created with the MFT "Royal Rolled Rose" die.  The sentiment is from the JustRite stamp set "Spring Rose Medallions".  It was stamped on the center oval from the doily set.   Kaiser Craft pearls were added.  The leaves were die cut using the Marianne Leaves die.  The green "filler" behind the flowers is the Memory Box "Leafy Branch".  To finish the card I added the Spellbinders corners from the "Lattice Accents" die set and a lavender silk bow.

Joan's Gardens Weekly Challenge

 

 

It is time for a new challenge at Joan's Gardens.   The theme this week is "All About Butterflies".  Please go over to Joan's Gardens to see all the challenge rules and to see what the prize is for this week.

For my card I used a piece of design paper from the Memory Box "Viola" 6x6 pad.  The pretty butterflies are the Memory Box Kaleidoscope and Moonlight Butterflies.  The Kaleidoscope butterflies were die cut using white card stock and were layered over the Moonlight butterflies which were die cut using vellum.  The pretty piece on the bottom of the card is the new "Anja's Vintage Decoration".    I used a new spray adhesive you can get from Joan's Gardens called "E6000 Spray Adhesive".  Wow, what an easy way to attach any detailed die cut.  You just spray it on the back and there is no odor.  This spray is much easier than using glue and gives you complete coverage so little pieces of your die cuts are not pulling away from your card.  The border around the card was punched with the Martha Stewart "Monarch Butterfly Wing Edger".  To complete the card I added Kaiser Craft Clear Rhinestone to the body of the butterflies, over the Vintage Decoration, and on each corner.

Susan's Garden Sunflower

 It is time for a new challenge at Joan's Gardens.  Here are the items we want you to use on your card this week:

• Use a plaid background
• Create a birthday card for a friend
• Use dry embossing
• Have something dimensional

For my card I used some new Sizzix dies.  For the shaped card, I used the Square w/Ornate Edge (pop-up) die - notice the pretty shaped end.  This die cuts the long card that you fold in half.

To decorate the front I used the Susan's Garden Sunflower dies for the flower and behind it placed the Heartfelt Creations "Bella Rose" flourish die.  It was cut apart and tucked in behind the flower.  The sentiment on top is a stamp out of the JustRite "Botanical Medallions & Banners" stamp set.  

 For the inside I used the Sizzix Card, Square w/Ornate Edge (Pop-up) die again for the card shape and in the center of this die placed the Sizzix Phrase, Friend 3-D (Pop-up) die.  When you open this card "Friend" pops up.  To get the different color for the pop-up "friend", I placed a piece of navy blue card stock over the words and a piece of red card stock over the little heart and die cut them again.  They were cut off at the ends and glued over the light blue die cut created in the center of the shaped card.  On the Square w/Ornate Edge die, you also get the pretty flourish that I glued to the end of the inside of the card.  On the left side of the card I used the cute  Susan's Garden Wheelbarrow & Watering Can Set, embossing folder to give texture to that side of the card.  There are sunflowers growing up behind the wheelbarrow so that is why I created a Susan's Garden sunflower for the front.

Joan's Weekly Challenge

It is time for a new challenge at Joan's Gardens. This week we want you to create a card 

• Use a leafy design for the background (die cut, stamped or embossed)
• Add purple flowers
• Use green, purple and white for colors
• Use a sentiment

For my card I use the Spellbinders  "5x7 Matting Basics A" dies to create my card.  If you are not familiar with these dies, you get 7 dies in this set, plus 7 dies in the Matting Basics B" set to help you create perfectly cut cards or perfect matting pieces for your cards.  I used the third largest die from the Matting Basics A set for this card.

To cut a perfect card, fold your card stock in half and place the folded edge just inside the cutting line of the die.  Tape it down so it doesn't slip when going through the machine.  When cutting your card with these dies, you get a pretty embossed line around the edge, which makes your card look very professional.

Here you can see the card once it is die cut.

For the delicate "cover" over my card, I used the Heartfelt Creations "Vintage Floret Frame PreCut Set" to stamp the design on a piece of green card stock.  I die cut it with the matching  "Decorative Leafy Frame Die".  In order to get the stamped design folded just perfect to place in the die so I could have the lacy design on the front and back of the card, I used a ruler and the ScorPal to make a score line down the side.  With the ruler lined up on the ScorPal I could wiggle the card just right so my score line would go right next to the stamped edge.     

In case you are not familiar with how to use this Heartfelt Creations stamp and die, here is a picture of how you do it.  First you tape the die to a piece of card stock and cut out the design.  With this one you end up with a frame to place over the stamped frame; it also cuts out around the leafy design.  With the die still attached, you place that frame over the stamped image, lining up the stamped edge with the die cut frame.  I have a piece of wax paper in my die that stayed there from the last die cut.  If you use wax paper between the die and card stock, it comes right out.  Tape the die cut frame down with removable tape so it doesn't move.

Place the die down over the stamped image.  You can feel it when you have it down in the die cut; tape so it doesn't move.

Here are the two pieces I created for my card - the lacy frame (cover) to go over the Spellbinders cut card.  I placed a 1/8" strip of ScorTape down the fold of the green frame and attached the white card inside.   

The sentiment from the Heartfelt Creations "Classic Message PreCut Set" stamp set was stamped in the center of the circle.   The leafy frame has three die cut flowers so I used the Heartfelt Creations "Open Vintage Floret" and "Mini Vintage Floret" stamp sets to stamp the three sizes of flowers, then colored them with markers.  There are three layers to each flower.  They were shaped with the Sizzix Flower Tool Kit.  In the center of each flower I added some Viva Black Paper Pen.

Joan's Gardens Weekly Challenge

 

It is time for a new challenge at Joan's Gardens.  Have you ever noticed how much a small additional item can really change the appearance of a card? This week's challenge is called "Lets Dress it Up".  Here is what you need to do:

Use lots of layers (more than two)

Use blue and white

Take a picture of this card then:

Add some type of embellishment to dress it up

Post a picture of both cards on your blog
Link your card in the challenge at Joan's Gardens

 To create my layered card, I used all the dies in the Spellbinders "Marvelous Squares" die set. As you can see, there are a lot of dies in this pretty set.   I die cut all the dies twice - once using white card stock and a second time using blue card stock so I could alternate the colors.  

To create my layers, I started out by centering the largest die in the center of the card front, taping it down so it wouldn't move while die cutting.  This card is 5.5" square.  It was then run through again with the embossing mat.  This left an embossed square cut out in the front of the card.  A 5.5" piece of white card stock was attached to the inside behind this cutout, then I started layering all the different pieces from this set, attaching each layer with dimensional tape.  The white corners, from this set, were arranged around the small white die cut in the very center of the card to make it appear larger.  The other set of blue corners were attached to the outer corners of the card. On each side of the center section I stamped the flourish from the JustRite "Grand Sentiments" stamp set.  A bow and Kaiser Craft Pearls were added to complete the card.

To dress my card up, I added  a flower and leaves.  The Rose was created with the My Favorite  Things "Royal Rolled Rose".  The tall leaves were die cut using the Memory Box "Fresh Foliage" die and the small leaf on the side of the rose is the smallest leaf from the Joy! Crafts die.   Adding just a single flower really changed the appearance, I think.

Joan's Gardens Weekly Challenge

It is time for a new challenge at Joan's Gardens.  This week the theme is "BUTTERFLIES".  Here is what you need to incorporate in your project this week:

• Have at least two butterflies
• Use Yellow and White as your color theme
• Include some type of swirl(s)
• Use Polka Dots
• Use at least one product from Joan's Gardens

For my background I used both Swirls and Polka Dots.  The top portion of it was embossed with a portion of the eBosser "Magic Celebration" embossing folder - this is a tri-fold card embossing folder and I used the front right panel.  I love these tiny little embossed polka dots! The lower portion of the background was embossed with the Crafters Companion "Regency Swirls" embossing folder.  

The Frame used is from the Spellbinders "Enchanted Labels 28" die set.  It was backed with yellow card stock.  On the inside around the sentiment, I used the Tim Holtz Punch to punch holes around the embossed line in the label, then sponged on Squeezed Lemonade Distress Ink around the inside of those punched holes.  The sentiments are from the JustRite "Grand Sentiments" stamp set.  If you haven't seen this stamp set, you should check it out here.

For the flowers, I used the Cheery Lynn "Cuties 4" die and cut the petals off the strip and built my own flower.  The pretty Memory Box butterflies were die cut using yellow polka dot design paper from my stash. For the "half" butterfly, I die cut the butterfly twice; folded one in half and cut the other die cut butterfly in half and glued it to the back of the wing which was now in the back.  The edges of the butterfly were sponged with "Wild Honey" Distress Ink.  A yellow silk bow was created with the "Bow Easy".  You always get a perfect bow every time you use the Bow Easy.

For my card I created a vellum "Poppy" created with the new Susan's Garden "Poppy" die set by Sizzix. The petals look so real in vellum.  I used the new Sizzix tool kit to shape the flower and leaves.   I'm not sure I like it or not, but I added some Green Flower Soft on the leaves as poppy leaves are "fuzzy".  The design paper is from my "scrap" bin.   The sentiment and label are from the new JustRite "Grand Sentiments" stamp set.  There are 36 stamps in this set;  I love the great variety of sentiments in it.  I used VersaFine Ink to stamp the sentiment and label then clear embossed them.  The center on one of the labels was cut out and raised with dimensional tape.  

On the bottom, under the poppy, I added a Spellbinders "Parisian Accents" border.  The border on the outside of the card was created with the Martha Stewart "Vintage Floral" punches.  A red silk bow was added to complete this card.

Joan's Gardens Weekly Challenge

I had so much fun with this week's challenge at Joan's Gardens.  Joan asked me to create a card using a fan for the challenge. This week your challenge will be to create a card or project that includes:

• Use some type of Fan -  stamped, die cut, etc
• Use colors Peach, Cream, and Green
• Use Lace
• Use Pearls

The lace border was created with the Martha Stewart "String Lace" corner/border punch.  The background paper is from an older Graphic 45 paper pad; the corners were rounded off and glued to the String Lace piece.

 I love the newer Marianne Design "Vintage Fan" die so created a real fan with it.  Isn't that fan piece gorgeous.  The fan die comes with two pieces - the delicate embossed piece on top and an angle wing if you want to use it on the backside.  I used a piece of peach the Graphic 45 design paper for the angle wing.  The fan pieces were die cut using cream card stock then lightly sponged with Tea Dye Distress Ink.  The embossed fan was glued to the angle wing. The five pieces were attached with a large pearl brad I had in my stash, then fanned out and a piece of dimensional tape added to the back of each one.  The fan was then attached to the design paper.  A bow was added to the bottom of the fan then the Memory Box "Kaleidoscope" butterfly attached in the center of the fan.   Small Kaiser Craft pearls were added on the fan pieces and in the center of the butterfly.

I was so happy with this piece that I decided to attach it to one of the $1.00 wood frames I got at Michael's.  I did not do anything to the finish on the frame but did sponge Tea Dye Distress Ink around the edges.  

There are two styles of the Marianne Design Vintage Fan.  I used the Vintage Fan Two.  The Vintage Fan One is also beautiful and you can see these at this link.

Joan's Gardens Weekly Challenge

It is time for a new challenge at Joan's Gardens.  Joan is  recovering from knee surgery and has asked that I post the challenge card on my blog and list the challenge requirements.  

This week we want you to create a "Girly" card.  

• Use pastel colors
• Use some type of lace (can be real or die cut)
• Use at least one bow
• Include flowers 
• Use at least one product from Joan's Gardens

For my "Girly" card I used a new new Sizzix die.  I think this Brenda Walton "Princess Dress" is so cute and it is very easy to use.  You place a folded piece of card stock or design paper up to the fold line on the shoulder and run through your machine to create the card.  I used a piece of one sided design paper so I did also cut a piece of solid pink card stock for the inside of the card.  You can cut both pieces at same time; just make sure the folds are in tightly.  The two pieces were attached with Glue N' Seal.    This die has some accessories you can use to dress it up.  I used the die cut bow on my dress.  In the center of the bow I added a small rose.   Along the bottom I added a piece of the Cheery Lynn "Anastasia Border". Around the neckline I used a little piece of the cut off edge of the Anastasia Border to make it look like a collar. I used Diamond Stickles to run a sparkly line along the bottom edge of the shirt, and around the neckline and a little on the lace on the bottom of the skirt.  Kaiser Craft pearls were added.   

I decided to dress my card up by adding a parasol.  I die cut the Marianne Design "umbrella" and backed it with a piece of ivory card stock.  Between the die cut and the backing, I added a piece of heavy gauge wire to make the handle of the umbrella strong enough to stand up.  It was attached to the inside of the dress with a glue dot.     

On the inside of the card I added a sentiment by Penny Black.

This is a picture of the dress before I decided to dress it up with pearls and the parasol.  I added diamond Stickles around the edges of the ivory bow.  On the top card I added a green bow to match the color of the parasol.  

There are a lot of fun things you can do with  this cute dress die.  Also this Sizzix die includes a deckle edge die cut card which I posted last Monday.

Joan's Gardens Weekly Challenge

It is time for a new challenge at Joan's Gardens. Joan is in the hospital, but  she pre-posted all the information about the challenge and added the link so you can add your cards to her blog. The challenge requirements are only listed here on my blog.   

The challenge this week is to create a card with butterflies. 

• Use at least 2 butterflies
• Add at least 3 different types of flowers
• Use aqua or light blue and white for the background
• Add a sentiment

For my card I used the Cheery Lynn "Chicken Wire Frame" over a piece of aqua blue card stock.  The pretty die cut in the center of the card is the new Marianne Design "Vintage Fan 1".  There are two pieces to this set but I only used the fan piece and not the "angel" wing.  You can make a beautiful fan with this die cut.  In the center is a sentiment from a JustRite stamp set.

In the upper left corner I added the Memory Box "Kaleidoscope Butterfly" with the Memory Box "Moonlight Butterfly" below.  On the right side above the flowers is one of the Cheery Lynn "Exotic Butterfly Small" butterflies.  

The pretty rose was die cut using the Spellbinders "Spiral Blossom Four" die.  Two Cheery Lynn "Cuties Fringe 4" flowers were added on each side of the rose.  On the left side I added the Marianne Design Mistletoe (LR0245) and glued on flowers from the Cheery Lynn "Build A Flower #2" embellishments. (I think this piece makes a great piece of greenery for adding little flowers.)   Above the rose, I used one of the Marianne Design "Decorative Elegance" embellishments and glued on the tiny Cheery Lynn "Baby's Breath" flowers from the Build A Flower #2 Embellishments.  Tucked around the rose are leaves from the Cheery Lynn "Flourish Leaf Strip".

Joan's Gardens Weekly Challenge

It is time for a new challenge at Joan's Gardens.  This week the colors to use will be Yellow, White and Black.   Please go over to Joan's Gardens for all the challenge rules and to see what the prize will be this week.

For my card I used a new Crafter's Companion embossing folder called "Floral", for the background.  This folder is 6"x6".   Love this size.   Joan has gotten in a lot of new Marianne Design dies and I have used several of them on this card.  The pretty frame is a "Craftables" frame (CR1241).    There are four different shape sets:  round, square, oval and rectangle.  In each package you get four different dies so there are lots of different things you can do with them.   The sentiment is from the JustRite "Vintage Rose Medallions" stamp set.  The pretty umbrella is also new from Marianne Designs.  It does not show up well in the photo, but it has little "Swiss" dots over the solid areas of it.  I backed it with black card stock and cut around the outer edge.  I think it is the prettiest die cut umbrella.  

The flowers were created with petals from the Cheery Lynn Build A Flower #2 dies and embellishments.  I used a variety of leaves behind the flowers:  Cheery  Lynn Build A Flower #3 for the large leaves; and many different Marianne Design leaves which are listed below.

Joan's Gardens Weekly Challenge

 

It is time for a new challenge at Joan's Gardens  We are thinking flowers this week.  The challenge is to create some kind of container filled with flowers.  Go over to Joan's Gardens for all the challenge information and to see what the prize is this week.

For my card I used the new Nellie Snellen  "Retro Swirls 1" embossing folder for the embossed background.  The bottom piece is from the Echo Park "Dots & Strips" design paper pad.  The little "Rick Rack" border is from the Cheery Lynn  "Expandable Tiny Borders die set. In the upper corners I added the "French Lilly Corner".   The basket is the Cheery Lynn "Spring Basket 1" and was colored with Distress Inks.  

For the mixture of flowers I used the Memory Box "Prim Poppy" and "Fancy Blossoms" die. Stamens from the Cheery Lynn BAF "Embellishments #1" set were added to the center of the yellow flowers. The tall leaf is the Poppy Stamps "Meadow Leaf" and the Cheery Lynn "Flourish Leaf Strip"  and "Build A Flower #2" were used for additional leaves in the basket.  The sentiment and flourish by it are from the Penny Black "Gratitude" stamp set.  The pretty butterfly is the Memory Box "Kaleidoscope and Moonlight Butterflies" layered.
