Pink Daisy Birthday Card

Today I have been working on this card while on Skype with Joan during her workshop.  Sounds like everyone is having a good time creating their projects.  Joan will be posting them to her blog on Monday.

I wasn't quiet sure what I was doing when I started this card. The finished size is 5.5" square.  I wanted to make a a rosette to go under an opening on the card.  I tried to use the Tim Holtz rosette, but for this project it was too small, so I created a larger one by using two 12" strips of card stock and scoring it every 1/4".  I cut an opening in the front piece of my card using the largest scallop Nestability.  I didn't like the frame it left, so I use the same die and one just a little smaller and cut a frame that would fit inside the cut area.  It was embossed before taking it out of the die.  I like that look much better.  Because the scores of the rosette are 1/4" the thickness of this card is 1/4" thick.

The flowers were created using the Heartfelt Creations "Daisy Path Flowers Precut Set" and the matching Daisy Patch Dies.  The daisies were stamped using Colorbox Rose Coral ink then cut out with the dies.  I used two different size daisies and layered two together to create each flower.  They were shaped using the Flower Tool Kit from Joan's Gardens.  Four Sizzix branch leaves and four Sizzix "Architectural Accent #3" corners were die cut.  The white background was embossed with the Cuttlebug "Textile Texture" embossing folder.

The embossed front was attached to the large rosette with ScorTape.  The die cut corners were attached then the leaves.  The flowers were arranged over the leaves then Martha Stewart white branches were tucked in to fill some of the empty space.  Tiny pink clear beads were glued into the center of each flower.    The sentiment and frame are from JustRite "You Inspire Me".  The were stamped with black VersaFine ink and clear embossed then cut out with scissors.  It was attached in the center for the rosette with a dimensional glue dot.  Tiny pink pearls were added along the scallops showing on the right side of the card to balance the pink around the circle.

Punched Camellia

Today I created a pink camellia flower and have included a picture of the punches I used.  When I lived where the weather was warm during the winter season, I had some beautiful camellia bushes and just loved them.   This is a 5.5" square card.  The designer paper is from a DCWV paper pad.  I will tell you a little story but promise not to laugh at me.  I found this designer paper and held it up and it looked like it was green and teal.  It is a metallic paper.  I created my card thinking I was picking up the teal (blue) in the design paper for the pendant, butterfly and the strip under the punched border.  Well when I took the card to the window to photograph it, there is no teal in the dp.  I thought I was going crazy.  Well what happened is that I am wearing a teal shirt and the metallic in the card picked up that color.   If you look in the right side of the card you can see the dp is green but if you look to the other side, doesn't it look blue???   Oh well.  I was not about to tear it apart!!!! 

The camellia was created using the punches listed above. I use a lightweight card stock from Joan's Garden's to create my flowers.   It was layered onto a Nestability Pendant with a glue pop dot.  Leaves from Heartfelt Creations were stamped and added under the flower along with some punched Martha Stewart branches. 

The border along the bottom was created  using the Martha Stewart "Doily Lace Trim" punch and layered onto a piece of teal card stock.  The sentiment and frame are from two JustRite stamp sets:  "Birthday Sentiments" and "Just A Note" sets.  They were stamped using blue ink then cut out with a scallop Nestie.  Each scallop was pierced then the edges sponged with blue ink.  A blue Martha Stewart Monarch Butterfly was added to complete the card.

Remembering With You

Today I have another card made with the beautiful Heartfelt Creations Iris Collection.
This is a 5.5” square card. The Dutch Iris Frame was stamped and colored using Prismacolor pencils and OMS. The Dutch Iris Oval was stamped and colored the same way. Two single iris and one bud were stamped, colored and cut out with matching dies. One iris was cut apart and layered on top of the other stamped flower to give it dimension. It was added over the flower in the stamped oval. Tiny gold beads were added to the stamens of the flower. The oval was cut out and layered onto a Nestability die cut scallop oval and was attached over the center of the Iris Frame.

A piece of rust card stock was embossed with the Cuttlebug Argyle embossing folder and layered on the left side of the card. The Iris frame was attached to the right side. The pretty Flourish was added on the left side. The sentiment was stamped using brown ink and cut out with a small oval scallop Nestability. It was sponged prior to taking it out of the die then each scallop pierced. The hummingbird, from the Angel Trumpet Flower set was added to complete the card.

Joan's Thursday Weekly Challenge

It's time for another Weekly Challenge at Joan's Gardens.  Last week we had 29 entries and we want to thank everyone for participating.  One person will be selected, in a random drawing, for the weekly prize and also be entered into the drawing at the end of the year for a $100 gift certificate from Joan's Gardens.  Joan and I have been very busy all week completing projects for her workshops this weekend.  Joan asked me to design a card for the challenge.   

This week the challenge is: 

• Use the colors Pink and Green
• Create a thank you card.
• Use some kind of stripes
• Use something scalloped

 This is a 5.5 inch square card.  I used a small piece of design paper from my "stash" and mounted it on light green card stock.  Three sets of Sizzix leaves were die cut and placed on the front of card.  Three flowers were created using the "Super Giant Begonia Petals" punch and the large sun punch used for the stamens.  There is one large flower and two smaller ones.  The sentiment is from the JustRite "You're So Sweet Set".  It was colored with markers and stamped on white card stock then cut out with a scallop Nestie.  A pink bow was added under the sentiment to complete the card.

Joan's Tag Challenge #9

I have never really made many tags, except for Christmas, and I am having so much fun participating in the tag challenge Joan has every week.  This week I decided to use one of the flowers from the JustRite Mother Nature's Gifts Set.  I stamped the flower with Versamark Ink on white vellum four times.  I cut it out with scissors, making each layer smaller so it would have lots of layers like a real flower.  The vellum was colored on the back with  yellow and orange markers.  I forgot I wanted to spritz it with water and layered it using small pop dots before spraying it.  I wasn't sure how it would work, but spritzed it after it was layered.  It did help to curl the petals, but think it might have looked better if I would have spritzed each layer prior to assembly.  I used the heat gun to dry it before placing in on the tag.

I used a manila shipping tag and cut a piece of design paper from a "My Mind's Eye" paper pad.  The colors were a perfect match for my flower.  The bottom edge of the design paper was punched with the Martha Stewart "Daisy Dot" border punch.  I saved the little flowers that were punched out and added them to the top of the tag.  Several Sizzix branch leaves were die cut and tucked in under the flower. 

The sentiment is from the JustRite "You're So Sweet Set".  It was stamped using Black VersaFine ink and clear embossed it.  Using scissors, I cut around the frame then sponged it with Tim Holtz Tea Dye Ink.  A Cuttlebug border, that I have had for a very long time, was embossed on a narrow piece of vanilla card stock.  I pierced holes under each point of the zig zag design.  This border and the edges of the tag were sponged with Tim Holtz Tea Dye Ink.

Today I did not create a new card but was playing with something I have been wanting to do for a long time.  I had this votive and all it had on it were the white metal double mounted butterflies.  I wanted to add some flowers.  First I cut a Nestabilities Lacy Circle to attach to the bottom of the votive.  Before attaching it I embossed it with the Cuttlebug Dotted Swiss embossing folder.  I created a lot  of vellum purple flowers using the Martha Stewart Hydrangea punches and the green vellum leaves were punched with the Martha Stewart "Frond" punch.  I wasn't sure it would work, but I attached the flowers and leaves to the glass on the votive with "Tombo Mono Aqua Liquid Glue".  It worked -- at least the flowers are still on and I think they are there to stay.  This glue is clear so it doesn't show through the glass.

Well that was my quick and easy project for you today.  I love creating flowers out of vellum because they are so quick and easy to make, and can really dress things up.  Hope you enjoyed my "frilly" project.

Another Beautiful Iris

I just love working with the new Dutch Iris stamp collection and matching dies from Heartfelt Creations and want to post another card using some more stamps from that collection.  Isn't that the most gorgeous Iris!  The products used on this card are:  HCPC 3372 Dutch Iris Frame PreCut Set; HCPC 3373 Dutch Iris Medley PreCut Set; HCD 711 Decorative Dutch Iris Die

This is a 5.5 inch square card. The Iris Frame was stamped with VersaMark ink on Ivory card stock and embossed with super fine gold embossing powder. A Martha Stewart Garden Trellis border was attached to the left side of the card, then the iris frame place on the right side. Two Dutch Iris flowers were stamped with Versafine Vintage Sepia ink and cut out with the matching die. One of the flowers was cut apart to create a dimensional iris. A burgundy colored pencil and OMS were used to color it. Three of the smaller iris leaves were stamped with black ink and also colored with colored pencils and OMS. A stem was hand drawn, cut out and colored then the flower was arranged on the lower left side of the card. Yellow Flower Soft was added to the center of the flower to complete the card.

Beautiful Dutch Iris

The iris is dimensional

Today I am posting a card I created for the Heartfelt Creations Blog.  This card was created using  the new Heartfelt Creations release" The Dutch Iris-Blossoms 3 Collection"  There are 7 new PreCut Sets. These new sets coordinate with a new exclusive Heartfelt Creations die, manufactured by Spellbinders, and 2 dies released by Spellbinders at Winter CHA.

I absolutely love working with this new Iris collection. The new sets I used are:  HCPC 3371 Dutch Iris Oval PreCut Set; HCPC 3373 Dutch Iris Medley PreCut Set; HCD 711 Decorative Dutch Iris Die. 

This is a 5.5 inch square card. The Dutch Iris Oval was stamped on white card stock. It was cut out with a Nestability Petite Oval die. The coordinating Iris Medley flower was stamped twice, one of the buds and five leaves. They were all colored with Prisma Colored Pencils and OMS. They were cut out with the coordinating dies. One of the extra iris was cut into smaller pieces so they could be shaped and layered with dimensional tape. A few of the leaves were layered over the leaves in the stamped image in the oval. The extra bud was added, then the layered iris. Yellow Flower Soft was added to the flower. The background was shaded with yellow chalk.

A piece of green gingham design paper was added to the front of the card. The same oval Nestability that was used to cut out the iris oval was used to die cut an opening in the top of the card. With the card closed, adhesive was added to the inside of the opening then the iris oval was placed in the opening. This guaranteed it would fit perfectly in the opening when the card is closed. To cut the black frame, I layered the same oval Nestability, used to cut the opening, with the matching oval scallop Nestability, and ran them through the die cut machine together. Two of these black frames were cut out. One was placed around the opening on the top of the card and the other one around the stamped iris oval which is attached inside the card. Two of the matching leaves were attached on the top of the card and a bow placed between them. It gives the design even more dimension. To complete the card, Cuttlebug die cut corners were added.

Isn't this a gorgeous Iris!  I really love working with this new Iris Collection.

Joan's Garden Weekly Challenge #9

Good Morning.  It is time for another Weekly Challenge at Joan's Gardens.  Before I get started, I want to thank all of you for your beautiful entries in last week's challenge.  There were over 100 entries and so much inspiration using JustRite Stamps.

Joan has been extremely busy this week with shipping and getting ready for her next workshop.  She asked me this morning to create a card for the challenge.  I wanted to use some design paper from a new pad I just received from Joan called "Stella and Rose" by My Mind's Eye.  All the pages in this pad are beautiful.   I do not use the color orange very often but loved the color combination in this paper.  I seldom build a card around a piece of design paper but found it fun to do.

The stamp set used is from the JustRite "Backyard Birds Set".  It should be time for the robins to appear but not the case where I live.  We are still getting lots of snow.  Where is spring????    I cut around the frame with scissors then mounted it on a blue Nestabilities Lacy Circles frame.  It was attached with dimensionals.  I really like the border on this JustRite stamp so tried to (kind of) duplicate it for the embellishment.  I used the Sizzix Birds and Branch die and layered two of the branches on the left side of the bird.  I created some orange blossoms using the"blossom" punch  I used yesterday for the Cherry Blossoms.  This punch is so versatile.  Two Cuttlebug corners were added on the top of the card, then a blue bow under the frame.  To complete the card, I decided to add some yellow Stickles to the center of all the punched flowers and the flowers in the border.

Cherry Blossoms

I have been promising to create a card with cherry blossoms created with punches.  I finally have it done.  This is a card that will fit into a business size envelope.  A piece of design paper from my "scrap" box was used for the background.  The branch was cut with the Sizzix Cherry Blossom Branch.  The name of the punches used for this flower are:  medium blossom; large splatt, small cosmo, and mini sun.  You can see all the pieces punched in the picture above.  Each piece was shaped using the Flower Tool Kit.  They were assembled and attached over the branch. When cherry blossoms bloom, there are no leaves on the trees, so that is why I did not add green leaves. The sentiment is from the JustRite "Fancy Tags" stamp set.  It was black embossed and cut out.  A border along the bottom edge was created with the Martha Stewart "Embossed Scroll" border punch.  A thin piece of trim was added along the cut edge of the border.  

I have had a lot of people ask me what card stock I used for my flowers. Above is a picture of one of the packages of colored card stock I use.    Joan's Gardens has many different packages with a variety of colors in each pack. The "Pastel" package has the pink and yellow card stock I used for these flowers.  There are many other variety packs so just about any color needed can be found in the different packs.  All this card stock is 12x12 inches.

Joan's Gardens Tag Challenge

Tulips On Script

It is time for another tag challenge at Joan's Gardens.  I have something very different from my normal style but it was a lot of fun.  I receive this pretty LaBlanche stamp from Joan's Gardens called "Tulips on Script" and decided to try my hand at a vintage style tag.  I used a manila shipping tag and used Tim  Holtz Green, Orange and Yellow Distress Inks to press directly onto the tag to give it a multi colored background.  The LaBlance Tulip was stamped with Memento black ink  then colored with Copic Markers.  Just the head of the largest tulip was stamped again and part of it cut out to apply over the one on the tag, to give it some dimension.  A few pieces of black pearl swirls were added.  A piece of green and orange trim was wound around the bottom of the tag then copper cording wound on top of it.  Joan sent me a package of the Tim Holtz Idea-ology "Philosophy" tags so I tied one around the trim on the bottom.  Three rows of the copper cording were added around the top of the tag and a few K&Company puffy embellishments were added.  Some "frilly" green and orange trim was added through the hole in the tag.

Pink and White Daisy Patch Box

I have had a very busy day and did not have time to create something new for you.  I am posting a box I created using Heartfelt Creations stamps.  The Daisy Patch stamps were used.  This is actually an explosion box.  I am preparing a tutorial on how to create one of these boxes,  so will not show the inside at this time.

Punched Rose Tutorial

Since I posted my tag last week for Joan's Gardens Tag Challenge, I have had a lot of requests, even from Joan,  to do a tutorial on how I made the rose made with punches from Joan's Gardens.  Before I get started, here the products used to create my card:  Nestabilities Labels 4; Martha Stewart Monarch Butterfly, Branch and Large Chrysanthemum  Punches; Sizzix Flourish; JustRite "You Inspire Me" fancy frame; JustRite "Kindness" sentiment; Heartfelt Creations stamped rose leaves; and Basic Grey "Sultry" design paper.  All products used on this card can be purchased from Joan's Gardens.

Below are the products and steps to create my rose:

Three sizes of the pear punch were used.  I didn't count how many petals I punched but used three eleven inch long pieces of pink card stock and punched as many as I could of each size.  I use the Power Punch I purchased from Joan's Gardens.  It is like cutting through butter when you punch with this tool.  And I'm sure you know the punches can also be purchased from Joan's Gardens.

Using the smallest circle in my Nestabilities, I die cut a circle and conditioned it with one of the tools from the Flower Tool Kit on the black mat.  You want to go around in circles causing the edges to curl (cup) up.

Using the same tool, you condition each of the punched petals (pears).  Do not cut off the stem of the pear.

After all the petals are conditioned, I used a large sponge dauber and sponged a darker pink ink on the edges to give the rose more "depth" of color.  I have to admit - I did have pink fingers by the time I finished.

Using the self-closing tweezers that are in the Flower Tool Kit, pinch each petal right in the center  on the stem end of the pear.  Kind of roll the edges around the tweezers. This will cause the side to roll forward and the top of the petal will roll backwards giving the petal a realistic look.  You can also use the tweezers to roll the upper edges of the petals back or forwards for more dimension. 

Using the conditioned circle, start adding the largest petals.  Add glue to the stem of the pear and attach to the edge of the circle.  Start by attaching them opposite each other as shown.

Now add to more petals in between the first two petals.  I used Aileen's Tacky Glue.  Press the "stem" of the pear down for a few seconds with the end of the stylus to get it to stick.  You only want glue on the very end so that the petals will cup up. 

Keep adding petals alternating them between the lower level.  Once you have a couple of rows of the largest petals, you start with the medium size petals then end up using the smallest petals in the center.

Add as many rows as you want until you get the fullness you want.  Now you are ready to create the center of the rose.

Using your self closing Tweezers, roll the petal around the tweezers.

It will look like this when fully rolled.  I rolled three petals this way.

Once the three petals are rolled, I pushed them down inside each other to form the closed bud of the flower.  Add glue as needed to help them stick together.

Add glue all around the outside of your closed bud and push it down in the center of your rose.  You now have a very realistic looking rose. 

On my card I attempted to create a rose bud.  This is my first try.  I created it just like I did for the very center of the rose only used more petals.  I think it looks pretty good.
