Woodland Leaves

Autumn leaves are so colorful.  This card was created using Susan's Garden Woodland Leaves dies.  The quote is Susan's new All Things of Nature rubber stamp.  It was die cut using one of the dies from the Lorna Label PopUp die set.

On August 10th, I posted this wreath I created with Susan's Wood Leaves dies.  I had several people ask me to show how I colored the leaves.  Below is a tutorial to show how easy it is to color the leaves.

I usually die cut leaves using white card stock but have also used Kraft card stock.  As you know, Autumn leaves can be a variety of colors including yellow, orange, brown, rust, green, red.  Before sponging on color, you need to use draw in the veins on each leaf.  I used Susan's Leaf  Tool to draw in veins and shaped them with the medium stylus.

l.  Above I have die cut one each of the leaves from Susan's Garden Wood Leaves and started sponging on Fossilized Amber ink.  Sometimes I use several shades of yellow.

 2.  Rusty Hinge Distress Ink was sponged on next.

 3.  Add Barn Door Red Distress Ink.

 4.  A Little Gathered Twigs Distress Ink was sponged on.

5. Most leaves will still have some green in them so I sponged on a little Peeled Paint Distress Ink.

6.  After I sponge color all over the leaves, I like to lightly mist them with water to blend the colors then I to go back and sponge brown around the edges to outline the leaf.

7.  To add a little texture, I  splattered on black ink.  To really bring out the color, each leaf was rubbed with VersaMark Ink, and clear embossed.  By doing this, it really brings out the detail on each leaf.  Don't Susan's Woodland Leaves create very realistic leaves!

I hope this tutorial helps you create your beautiful Autumn Leaves.
