Snow Scene - New Double Embossing Technique

I am so excited to show you this card.  I figured out a new way to do double embossing with a different Nestability die.  Yesterday I received my new Christmas stamps from GKD and immediately knew I wanted to create this scene.  When I looked at the stamps, I had this idea in my head and wasn't sure it would turn out, but I really like the look.  This technique actually gave the scene real dimension.

I embossed the snowflakes around the outside using the Oval wooden frame.  Instead of embossing using an oval Nestie to emboss the center, I decided to use Labels Four.  It fits close enough and I think looks great.  But I didn't use just one, I decided to used two different sizes.  This is what has given this embossing a lot of dimension.  I placed the larger Labels Four Nestie on the "back" of the snowflake embossed piece and ran it through my Big Shot.  Then I turned the piece over and centered a smaller Labels Four nestie in the center, on the "front"  to get another embossing.  Can you see what this did?  When you place the Nestie on the back, the ridge of the Nestie pushes up giving you a nice outline.  When you place it on top  and emboss, that crease is indented.  Can you see what I mean?

I stamped the snow scene from "Winter Friends".  This is a new set designed by Rupa Shevde, and available from Gina K Designs.  This set is full of fun winter images and greetings.  I stamped the scene and colored it with Copic markers.  I placed the Nestie back over the scene and chalked blue on for the sky.  The snowman is also from this set and I decided to do paper piecing for his jacket and scarf.  The paper was actually red and white and I used a Copic marker to add some green.  The greeting is from Gina's "Holiday Greetings" set. It was cut out with a petite circle Nestability and each scallop pierced.   The snowman, and greeting are attached with Dimensionals.  Crystal rhinestones were  added on the snowflakes and white Flower Soft added for snow.

I wasn't sure this new embossing technique would work, but I am very pleased with it.  It is always fun to experiment.  Do you like this look?

Hi Selma your card is gorgeous!! Can you tell me, when I run my card through the bug with the nestie after it seems to crush the outside embossing. Am I doing something wrong?I thought I had followed your instructions.

Di, you asked me a question, but I don't know how to respond to you so will do it here. When you do this technique it does crush (or flatten) the outside design some, but I think it is worth it in order to get the embossed frame in the middle. I have tried running it back through the embossing folder again, but then it crushes the inside frame. One other problem that can occur, if you use a shim when embossing the Nestie, sometimes the "sandwich" is to thick, and it will create a fold at the bottom of the Nestie. If you are not using a shim, this shouldn't happen. Please let me know if any of this helps.

That looks awesome Selma! Great idea! Might I ask what the oval wood frame is? I'm not familiar with that. Thank you for sharing!

Fran, I made a tutorial showing the frame and how to do this technique. Check it out here:

Selma,

OMG this technique is the best. I love it when you experiment. You come up with such wonderful results. The dimension in this card is unbelieveable. I love the houses with the snow all around. Wonderful snow scene. Now all I need is the hot chocolate and a fire in the fireplace.

Beautiful, Selma! I was planning on using the snowflake folder on my Christmas cards this year. I may borrow your technique and just emboss the frame like you did. Thank you for sharing. Your card is gorgeous, as usual!

I will have to see if I can figure this out when my brain comes back to me! but this card is just beautiful and I so love learning new things!!
